Aspect ratio video problem

I removed the auto config line from the config as sub suggested and it displays full screen now but its too tall.

I certainly didnt suggest that. I do remember reading another user post that advised that. All I would have suggested was pressing F7 to change aspect ratios.

Just tried another very simple app called dvrviewer available here http://mediapix-australia.com/htpc/DVRview/with source code. This uses vmr9 and apha blending of the OSD and does not suffer any problems during aspect ratio changes or when zoomed.

Did you notice the OSD has moved in those two screen shots? Its always over the video, see the 169.JPG screenshot you posted. There is a big black bar above the OSD. This is precisely what I need to avoid.

With the way GB-PVR does it, the OSD fills the entire screen, but the video may fill a smaller window within that screen. In that screenshot the video and OSD both fill a smaller window.

The screen shot was a 16:9 video played on a 4:3 display hence the letterboxing. Does the GBPVR OSD have to fill the entire 4:3 display when showing say a letterboxed 16:9 video ? I think most users do not want the OSD to take up more area than the actual full screen video window.

Yes, thats exactly what I was pointing out, and its effect on the OSD.

That is my intention, which is the same as what set top boxes do. It works beautifully on my ATI card.

I think you are wrong. Most users would prefer the OSD in a fixed position, with just the video aspect ratio changing.

This is how it is supposed to look... notice how the OSD is outside the video.

You've also got to remember other aspect ratios, like pillar box. In the picture below. The current scheme would have the OSD going to the edge of the screen, rather than big black bars on the left and right also affecting the OSD.

The idea is, I run GB-PVR on my tv fullscreen. If I press F7 to change aspect ratios, or it detects it by itself, I still want the OSD to go to the edge of the TV screen (like my first screenshot), with only the shape of the video changing within the screen. I hope that makes sense.

It seems like you're trying to keep 4:3 display users happy at the expense of 16:9 users. If using a 16:9 display then example 2 is exactly how it displays minus the letterboxing. If vmr9 is in use then the OSD's can be alpha blended translucent and don't really get in the way of the video that much.

Maybe a poll would be usefull to see what is preferred among users ? I actually prefer something that fills the video window only like capture 2.

The video window (containing the OSD) could then be zoomed or stretched horizontal/vertical to suite the display device.

as a 16:9 user, i agree with sub on this one, keep the osd in the same place and change the underlying video size/location.
