I am unsure if you can connect your cable directly to the PVR - but if you connect it straight into your TV I dont see why not.

Do you hvae to tune each channel in on the TV in order to watch them?
I live in New Zealand, and you have to have a box for both cable and satellite services. (of course, there are free to air channels for normal tuning without a box)

Just try plugging the cable lead directly into the PVR's input and see what happens - run the channel scan utility (I think thats what it is called - I dont use it, all of my inputs are via RCA) and see what it brings up.

Maybe another user will be able to explain how to tune channels - or hopefully someone from New Jersey using a PVR who may be able to shed some light.

Most people in the US connect their cable directly to their video capture card. Unlike the rest of the world, most US cable networks transmit the first 125 or so channels in clear analog. There are some exceptions to this. Some cable operators have channel numbers less than 99 as analog. Some transmit no analog channels.

ok, I have the cable directly plugged in and I load the software and get 2 errors: 2908 & 1935 (I think). I searched the forum and found a similar post. I had .NET V2 installed so I removed that and am going to install the dotnetfx file as per the initial page. Strangely, this is a different file than what was given to me via a link from last night. I think I am on the right road... I'll keep you posted and THANK YOU for your input and patience!!!

OK - I've installed everything and got no errors. But I'm totally out of my element when it comes to configuring this. Again, I'm new to the PVR world so I have a lot of research to do, but any hints would be great! Thanks!

I suggest you get it working with the Hauppauge WinTV software first. Then at least you'll know you've got things connected up correctly.

Once you know its connected up correctly, and can see channels, then go to the GB-PVR wiki http://www.gbpvr.com/pmwiki for instructions on setting it up.

ok - I took your advice and tried to install the Hauppauge WinTV software first just to make sure things work but it looks like it only works for NT and W2K, I'm running XP. I'm going to have to restart my efforts tomorrow since it's late. Based on prior posts, I suspect 'sub' is up caring for your new baby - Congrads and THANK YOU 'sub' and 'JohnyCam', at least I have the software up with no errors and I have you to thank for that!

I'm looking forward to getting this configured and running!!!

'nite!!
