I figured out my problem with the auto aspect ratio playing my xvid files on the ATI 9250. I realized that the problem was not there with divx files and just xvids. I had to change the auto aspect ratio from "Auto (MPEG4 first)" to "Auto (External first)" in the xvid decoder settings. Now I do not get the double letterbox effect like in the screen shots I posted. Hopefully this will help some other people out there.

You can get the problem even in full mode by forcing anti-aliasing in the driver panel...

Easy to reproduce using graphedit as well. Try rendering a media file in graphedit using vmr9 and adjusting any of the x or y sliders.

Daza - how did you get the VMR9 config properties?

When I right-click on the VMR9 filter and select properties, all I see is stats.

What GraphEdit version are you using?
(mine is 9.04.78)

It's 9.0.0.400, you may need to register the proppage.dll that comes with dx9 to see the properties page of a filter.

How did you go with your graphics card RMA ?

I don't seem to have proppage.dll. I'm wondering if I don't have the full DX9 because I'm using the DX9c supplied within .NET 1.1/2.0 (I had to separately source GraphEdit application file from the Internet). I'll do some research.

And I still haven't received my RMA video card (6 weeks now):mad:
This is very poor service from Legend NZ. I'm going to ask for a refund if it doesn't turn-up this week.
