boxspringhog Wrote:I decided that you guys are right. I do not have a decoder. the 500 mce ships without one I guess because it expects to use the mce one. In any case, I have downloaded several software decoders but cant seem to load them into gbpvr.

you can download the full driver and application set for the 500MCE from here

http://www.shspvr.com/pvr2_drv-apps.html

It includes
WinTV-PVR (Combined IVAC 15/16) PCI II CDROM Release contains the following:
WinTV-PVR 150/500MCE Release 2.0.18.22316
WinTV-PVR 250/350 Release 1.18.21.22301
Contains the following:
Hauppauge WinTV-PVR Dll Update 2.2.22292
Hauppauge WinTV2000 4.7.22355
Hauppauge WinTV Radio 1.53.22033
Hauppauge WinTV IR 2.45.22350
Hauppauge WinTV IR Blaster 1.3.22296
Hauppauge Radio/TV Scheduler 1.12.22345
Hauppauge WinTV Source Selector 1.11.22266
Hauppauge Software MPEG Decoder 5.0.22236
VTPlus Teletext Application 2.6

I think gbpvr only lists certain decoders and not necessarily everyone that is installed.

@gEd

No, the original Driver CD shouldn't be used! With these, the PVR-500MCE can't be used under WinXP ! I had the same Problem, because it's not possible to install the MPEG-2 Encoder from Hauppauge with these drivers! (The MCE Driver CD is assuming, that the card will be used under WinXP MCE with it's own driver!).

He has to use the normal PVR-150 Driver, which can be found too on your linked Website. After this he has to install the MPEG-2 Encoder from Intervideo/Hauppauge.

Yepp, GB-PVR won't list every kind of CoDec, only a few! Take these as examples:
bitcontrol® MPEG-2 Video Decoder,DScaler Mpeg2 Video Decoder,CyberLink DTV Video Decoder,InterVideo NonCSS Video Decoder for Hauppauge,InterVideo Video Decoder,CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (ATI),CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD7),NVIDIA Video Decoder,CyberLink Video/SP Decoder,Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder,Moonlight-Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder,MainConcept MPEG Video Decoder,MainConcept (Hauppauge) MPEG Video Decoder,Sonic Cinemaster® DS Video Decoder,Zulu HDTV Video Decoder(BDA),Nero Video Decoder,GPL MPEG-1/2 Decoder

Thanks guys!!! I kinda dont know exactly what I did that worked but it got good enough that I installed my other 500mce card. The good news is that I was able to perform 4 simultaneous recordings but the guality on all recordings is terriable. The weird thing is that when I test my signal with the tuning assistant all channels look fabulous and when watching live tv or recorded like garbage. Boy if its not one thing its another. Any ideas whats going on now? Thanks again, I dont know what I would do with out this site!

Press alt-printscreen, then paste the picture into MS Paint or other graphics program, then save it as a JPG and post it.

I cant explain why it'd look any different in the tuning assistant. It just looks like bad reception to me.

I have my signal comming into a 1x4 splitter/amplifier; 2 feeding the cards and 1 feeding a television. The signal to the tv also looks great. Any ideas. I also tried bypassing the splitter and going directly into one of the cards and it did not improve. Any thoughts?

Thanks again!
