Hi ShiningDragon,

Where DVD Covers say 2,3333:1, 1,85:1 and so on, they refer to the display aspect ratio (the image shape displayed on the screen).

I noticed you mentioned in an earlier post that you are using an LCD display, therefore your display has square pixels. There is nothing wrong with using the non-standard 768x576 on a square pixel display providing your aspect ratio corerection is based on square pixels, however I'm fairly sure GBPVR "auto' aspect ratio will not scale correctly under such circumstances. But what should work correctly is video decoders configured to "keep original/source aspect ratio". Keep in mind though, that DVD's are 720x576 (for PAL DVD), therefore requiring conventional aspect ratio correction, which is different to your special 768x576 aspect ratio correction.

At the end of the day, I think it is a lot simplier, uniform, and conventional to use 720x576 for PAL.

I read this thread for the first time today. I just installed my eVGA Nvidia 6200 yesterday. I previously had an Nvidia 6600GT in temporarily from a gaming system but sold that on Wednesday. I figured the software and drivers should be the same and up-to-date since I downloaded and installed them on Monday. I never saw the options depicted in your post. I only saw Nvidia control panel. Do I need to install something else? If so what and if not how do I access Nvidia video decoder properties?

In the config app you can click the 'video decoder settings' button on playback tab of the config app.

I dont recommend going down that path though, since you end up with interlaced video. Install the new version of GB-PVR, and use the VRM9 Custom instead.

Thanks. Is there anything else I need to do? Any specific options in VRM9?

No. If you're an nvidia owner, and trying to use DXVA, you pretty much need to use the 'VMR9 Custom' renderer. No other specific settings need to be applied.

I don't have the options you have in the 'video decoder settings'. I am using an InterVideo Video Decoder. You must be using the Nvidia DVD Decoder or the NVIDIA PureVideo decoder . Right?

I finally have tested MPEG and Xvid on the TV-out with the 0.97.13 version. The auto aspect ratio works perfect. I have other problems which I will post in a different thread.

Did anyone finally get a full resolution to this issue? It still happens for me with Nvidia drivers 97.73 with VMR9 on a 7600GT. If I change to using VMR9 Custom the problem goes away...BUT instead I get hugely increased cpu usage on fullscreen plasma viewing on the 2nd monitor output, and image shearing - which makes this mode unusable.

I have to keep reverting to WMP or MPC when I find sources badly affected by this problem, which isn't very helpful.

'VMR9 Custom' and 'VMR9 Fullscreen Exclusive' are only compatible with the primary monitor, since they require direct3d hardware acceleration. They'll suck badly on a secondary monitor.

You could try switching the primary monitor, so that your TV is treated as the primary and your PC the secondary, giving you the required hardware acceleration for VMR9 Custom.

It'd be nice if nvidia would just fix it already...

Thanks for the ultra quick response. No time tonight, but I'll try switching the monitors next time I get the chance (had to revert to MPC for tonights viewing).

Changing the plasma to be the Primary monitor didn't help with the CPU usage under VMR9 Custom (but it did make life a whole lot more painful due to where windows end up by default - logging in is a real pain). Is it definitely the Primay Monitor setting or does the monitor also have to be recognised as Display 1, rather than Display 2.

Edit: Forgot to add that GBPVR refused to start on the plasma, it resolutely starts up on the LCD/PC monitor which is set as the secondary display, no matter what I put in NV settings etc.
