I have 2 kids, 5 & 6 years old and approx 300 cd's of cartoons in VCD and SVCD format. They don't seem to play through GBPVR. Is there a playback solution simple enough for my kids or are we SOL? I considered connecting my original DVD player and letting them keep on the way they were but my TV only has one input and my GB-PVR box is now connected to in instead. I'm really hoping I don't have to re-rip all this media to the harddrive... They play fine in cyberlink powerDVD but then I have to quit GB-PVR...

Any help appreciated. TIA.

Sorry, there isnt really any support built in for VCD/SVCD. They're not commonly used in my part of the world, so its not something I ever thought to add.

If the PC will play them, then gbpvr can be set up to use it.
Open config, go to the Directories tab.
Click Add under Video Library.
Browse to your CD drive, and double click the "MPEG2" folder.
Give it a name when prompted (I call it SVCD).
Close config.
Put an SVCD in the drive, and open gbpvr.
Go to video library, and click the SVCD link. Click on AVISEQ.MPG, The video will now play.
The procedure is similar for VCD, just find the folder on the VCD that contains the actual .mpg file, create a link in config to that folder as you did for SVCD, call it VCD when prompted, and it will now show as a link in video library in gbpvr.
You don't get any OSD (or at least I don't), but it plays all my disks with no problems.
You can never have enough tuners!

Interesting solution. Smile

I'll try it when I get home tonight.

Many thanks for your input!

I was in the same situation, I simply copies all the aviseq.mpg files to the harddrive and gave them apporiate names, and added the folder in the video library. This took care of the returning "dad.....this cd is broke" problem.
