I get this message quite often and I wondered if any one could help me with it.

"Error: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it"

Attached are my log files and a screen shot of the error.

This is because your recording service is dying, and not running when you get this error.

You next question is why is the recording service?
Quote:7/29/2006 10:27:23 PM.875 ERROR [11] FATAL UNHANDLED EXCEPTION:: System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

at System.Threading._IOCompletionCallback.PerformIOCompletionCallback(UInt32 errorCode, UInt32 numBytes, NativeOverlapped* pOVERLAP)
Some antivirus and firewall software are known to be incompatible with .NET remoting, which is the communication method used for talking between GB-PVR components. When the software, which forces itself into the GB-PVR processes, tries to monitor this communication it handles one of the calls incorrectly leading to this crash.

This is not a GB-PVR bug, but a bug in the antivirus/firewall software. It also affects all other applications that use .NET remoting. NOD32, Netlimiter and Panda Antivirus are known to cause this, but its possible that some other software also has this same problem. Do you use one of these? or something else?

The easiest fix is uninstalling the problem software. Depending on the software you may also be able to set an exclusion for the GB-PVR processes, but I'm not that familiar with these, so cant really help you out on that front.

I don't use NOD32, Netlimiter or Panda. I have McAfee antivirus which is quite outdated at the moment. The only firewall I have is the windows firewall in XP.

Does anyone know if there is any way to easily determine which application is causing this? Just trial and error?

I'm guessing McAfee.

Often when it generates this error, it also adds a log entry to the Windows Event Viewer saying offending module (for example, imon.dll). When you view the properties of that DLL, it'll show the manufacturer or product name.

Thanks for the tip! I will check into this tonight. I will post a follow up to show the offending application.

McAfee seems to be the culprit. I added GBVPRPriorityRecording.exe to the trusted scripts list and so far no more crashes. Normally every morning there was an error message but this morning nothing.

Thanks Sub!

I've experienced a lot of problems with machines with McAfee so avoid it at all costs - I now run AVG for antivirus and ZoneAlarm for firewall - no problems and both are free for personal use...

Just to say that although ZoneAlarm is fine I have finally given up on it due to the fact that with the free version you are unable to click on any of the ZoneAlarm dialogue pop-ups from a remote connection (PCAnywhere etc). I have ended up using BitDefender for both Antivirus and firewall, which is working well for me.

I just started receiving this same error message. I have been having a really hard time setting up my second PVR150 card to work with my Digital STB. I finally decided that it is likely due to the fact that I had it linked through coax cable, not s-video. So i went out and purchased an s-video cable, and hooked up the STB to the pvr-150. Now everytime I try to record or watch TV I get the "active refusal" message discussed aboce. Is it possible that my STB itself has the outputs disabled? Or is this likely due to my antivirus? I have uninstalled my other PVR-150 analog card (just connected to cable) in hopes of simplifying this setup.

I forgot to mention that I use Norton 2005, but the problem persists even when Norton autoprotect is disabled
