LCD and plasma screens are a lot less forgiving than good old fashioned CRT TVs. A lot of analog signals look crap on them. A lot of it comes down to the quality of the TV's on board analog to digital conversion circuitry - ie, some of them turn blocks of similar colors into one color. The quality of the scaling that takes place at the same time also plays a big part.
How did the same MVP look on your old TV?
I know this doesnt really help, but just so you know - on my fujitsu plasma, the DVI picture from my PC looks worlds better than composite/svideo from the same machine.
