Sorry if this is documented elsewhere, but I can't figure out how to disable the subtitles on the DVD player. It's on no matter which DVD I put in.

They're usually disabled by default. You could try pressing Ctrl-Y to see if they go away.

I pressed Ctrl-Y & another set of subtitles came underneath the ones on the screen. I'm using the nVidia video & audio decoder - is it possible that the decoder is putting up subtitles or close captioning? If so, anyone using the nVidia decoder with the latest version of forceware know how to shut them off?

OK, things are getting worse.
I tried switching the decoder to Cyberlink (audio & video) to see if that would take care of the subtitle issue - the subtitles went away, but I once the DVD started, I had no control over anything, I couldn't skip, fast forward, pause, stop or even go to the DVD menu. The only thing I could do was exit GBPVR. I switched back to nVidia (exactly the same as I had before), but now nothing even plays. If I choose DVD, I get a blank screen. Bringing up the task manager shows GBPVR with no CPU utilization at all. I'm at a loss at this point. I've attached my logs in case anyone has any ideas.

There something really funny going on on your machine during DVD playback. Its trying to use two video decoders and two audio decoders at the same time. I'm guessing this is because selected nvidia ones are refusing to work for some reason and it ends up having to use the nero. Anyway, this is probably the cause of your subtitle problem.

Thanks. Any idea how to get decoders uninstalled? I uninstalled Power DVD & the Nero suite, but the codecs are still there. Right now I can't play DVD's at all - either blank screen with nVidia or else none of the controls work w/ Cyberlink (either using the keyboard or remote).
I'm hoping I don't have to wipe the machine & start over...

You could use the directshow filter manager from http://www.softella.com/dsfm/index.en.htm

I uninstalled all the decoders & put in just the nVidia decoder - now I just get "Unable to play DVD".
I think that when I get a chance, I'm gonna wipe the machine clean & do a fresh Windows install. I just wonder if there's some remnants of Beyond TV/Media & Sage left behind from the uninstalls creating some havoc. At least at this point, I haven't missed any recordings like I was w/ BTV... |
