I have been wanting a new remote that could possibly replace the three that sit on the coffee table but wanted something that wouldn't look too intimidating for everyone that'll use it, but also have enough buttons to do what I want it to do.
The Sony RM-VL600 fit the bill in more ways than one. The $25 price tag and the ability to control up to 8 devices and learn on almost any of its buttons is exactly what I wanted. The macro function is very cool too... the ability to turn on the tv, set the tv to the right video input, set the video mode to "movie", turn on the reciever and set it to DVD input, then fire up the DVD player and start playing a movie all with ONE press of a button is just cool... yeah, I'm a remote newbie!
I was able to disable the DeBounce feature of the MCE receiver (thanks to a quick search here) so it works great with that and I was finally able to disable Girder (about once or twice a week, it would peg the CPU at 100% and mess up some recordings). I'd highly recommend this remote.
