Hi sub!

I mentioned this before, as you publiced the 0.99.5 Version of GB-PVR. Since this upgrade, which went really fine (no error, no changes) i have problems of playing back some .avi Files.

The problem ist: Nearly 95% of tries, to playback a .avi File produces a crash of gb-pvr, but nothing is to see in den debuglogs. Instead the error-report of windows wants to tell this error to microsoft.

But SOMETIMES, if i have LUCK, THEN..., yes THEN i can playback an .avi file.

To give you an idea of my system, i write down my configuration:

GeForce 7900 GT (Primary Adapter, for CRT and working and gaming)
GeForce 6150 (Secondary Adapter, for LCD and GB-PVR only)

I am using the VMR Mode with latest NVIDIA PureVideo Decoder and enabled DxVA (it's working, tested).

The movies are all ripped by myself and maked NEVER problems @ playback since the step-up to 0.99.5.

And the fantastic thing: I enabled the debug logging, provocated these behaviours but NOTHING was to see in the logs. Just crash and error report.

The movies have all the same size (720 x 576), but different aspect ratios like 1,33:1, 1,66:1, 1,85:1 and 2,35:1

Sub, i need your help. Just tell me, how i can get support from you, so that you can make your own image of this. I don't have useful logs. Could it be, that i have for every movie an picture? They are in format .jpg and are sized 756 x 1080 @ 72 dpi.

Mhm, mhm... all is crazy. If you shouldn't have an idea, i have to try a new installation.

if you look in your windows event logs, does it give you anymore information there?

No, not really. Nothing interesting to see. GB-PVR starts to open the video... waits some seconds and THEN suddenly crashes (error report on primary display).

I don't know, why this can happen. With MPEG-2 Recordings all is fine.

btw: Sub's away for a few days.

How about uploading (somewhere) a small sample avi file that reproduces the problem so we can check if it is a general gbpvr problem or specific to your pc

The videofiles are fine, they aren't the problem. WMP, and VLC too can playback these files errorfree. I have a clean installation and only one MP4 Decoder (XviD latest built) and the NVIDIA PV for MPEG-2/DVD.

So, you wanna see a small moviefile, happening this error on the pc? Or what did you meant before this?

That is what I meant, yes. I was thinking that if somebody else tested the avi on their pvr pc, it would just confirm if there was anything "unusual" about your avi's. It was just an idea.

Does the problem repro if you run gbpvr on the primary display?

Mhm..., good point Smile I will test this immediately.

gEd, you're thoughts were right. It seem to have something to do with the primary and the secondary graphicsadapter.

On the primary one (GeForce 7900 GT, AR 4:3) @ window AND fullscreen mode are NO problems.

On the secondary one (GeForce 6150, AR 16:9) i have the above mentioned problems.

But only since my upgrade to 0.99.5. I don't understand, what could be changed. I changed no driver or anything like this.

Do you have an idea? Should i test different playbackmodes like Overlay or VMR Custom Renderer?

Mhm..., i remember to had replaced my original quartz.dll with another one, which was mentioned somewhere in one of the threads here (version ending .2905, 2006-11).

If this could have something to do with the failing of .avi containern on the secondary adapter?

cool - That sounds like progress.

Unfortunately that was a bit of a guess on my part as a) we would have heard from others if there was a problem playing avi's and b) I suspect that not that many users have 2 x displays.

definately have a play with overlay and vmr custom.

No idea if the quartz.dll would be the cause - I would guess not.

You may need some ideas from people like Csy who know this stuff 100 times better than me.

I have had the same issue with AVI crashing all media players I try them with.

It had something to do with the AVI 4CC in the file.

I used avic to change them from DIVX or xvid to "XVID" - or the other way around. (bad memory) You can google AVIC.exe and download it.

Just try changing both of the 4CC's shown in the program and see if they will then play.

Can play the same AVI's in media player etc?
Thanks

Me not, my problem is only GB-PVR limited. And this is not normal, because it's just using the directshow filters, the Windows Media Player is using too. And WMP plays all my files fine, like GB-PVR <= 0.99.5

I don't think, this would be helpful, but i will google for it and download this. It would be the last step, i try. But who know for sure in the world of Bits and Bytes Big Grin

Yep, in ANY other player, without any problems. My files aren't corrupted, though they are on a RAID-0 :p

But anyway, thanks to gEd and you for your help. I'll try out a little bit myself, now, that i am at home ^^;

EDIT:
Just caught up a try @ VMR on 2nd adapter

That's the point, were GB-PVR is crashing.

EDIT2:
At overlay i have another problem. GB-PVR isn't crashing anymore, but i have no video. Audio, yes. But no video.

EDIT3:
VMR7 seems to be working. Just a bit stuttering, but it works. Mhm... i think, i have to wait, till sub fix it (whatever it is); i don't wanna stay TOO long @ VMR7.
