Hi!

I tried to use some multiDec plugins to try out the this new feature.
Trying to actually get use of my boxer card.
No matter what plugin i put in the MDPLUGINS folder or even if i leave it empty, the playback gets terrible choppy and unwatchable. (both FTA and encrypted channels).

If i disable the multidec support in GBPVR config, everything seems fine.(FTA anyway =) )

I found that the Intervideo codec works best for me (about 40% CPU), but i tried all possible combination i can think of.

Using a 1.5GHz Laptop with 512MB RAM and ATI mobile radeon 9200.

Any suggestions what could be happening. What should I look for? Would you like some info from any logfile?

Tried the exact same plugins in mytheatre and there they are all working just fine.

I suspect the CPU isnt able to keep up. There probably isnt much you can do other than trying alternative multidec plugins to see if you can find one that works better for you - or try a faster machine.

So such a plugin is that CPU intensive? Is it because the early implementation of multidec in gbpvr (early alpha)?

As i said before, havent' had this difference in CPU load earlier, even been successful with other applications av an 1GHZ client running Windows XP.

But I'm still impressed with the application in general, i tryly hope this will improve. Great job!

GB-PVR uses a multidec directshow layer developed by another user. It does seem to be relatively CPU intensive, but I'm not sure if he'll be improving this in future or not. GB-PVR isnt really involved in this interaction other than telling it which channel the user is watching - but there is virtually no CPU use involved in that one-off activity.

A friend of mine used the exact same capture device and multidec plugins as I do on my machine, but found that his Athlon 1800+ wasnt quite up to the task, and caused choppy playback. The same thing worked fine on my P4 2.8GHz machine. Lucky in his case we were about to find an alternative multidec plugin to achieve the same thing on his machine,

Okay. I'll check around some more.

I had a friend trying the same on his fresh pc bought about a month ago, he got the same problem actually. (3.8GHz or whatever).

The wierd thing for me was just the fact that even with an empty MDPLUGINS folder the system got so slow. Seems like little chance finding anything that will work then. =(

Oh well, any successful combination stories would be greatly appriciated. (ie card, codec settings and plugin used.

Maybe an idea for a forum topic? "Success stories". Seen it with other software, ie knoppmyth and others.

I must say the response time in this forum is AWESOME! Hats off to all of you!

It still is hit and miss on my system with an Athlon xp 3500+ and 1.5 gig ram. A lot of stuttering and I only get a channel or two from the guide. Usually it just tells me it is not getting a signal or something like that, but the signal meter is showing a great signal. I can pick any channel from config during the mapping, just not in the actual gbpvr UI. It looks like the interface to the plugin must be different from the guide than what it is for channel mapping. I may try a complete reload of all software when I get a chance. For now, my new DVBS card went up in smoke and I am not sure why. I will have to wait to see if I can get a new one. I am extreamly excited about this and will keep plugging away. I will post back if I find anything. BTW, if Arg. posts an updated wrapper, can we just move it into GBPVR?

What do you mean by the last bit of this?

They both use the same code, so I cant think why it'd be different. We can look at it though. I'll provide details in a minute.

Yes, assuming he doesnt update the interface.

If you (temporarily) create the following registry setting:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Devnz\LogPSIProcessing=1 (DWORD)

Start the GB-PVR and change channels a until you get this black screen signal meter thing, then zip and attach the gbpvr.exe.log and gbpvr.exe-native.log and the c:\psi.log and we'll take a look.

Also, you should make sure you're running the patch from this thread: http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=1...tcount=257

This patch fixes a bug where some channels with unable to be decrypted.

You might also take a look at how often even and odd DCWs get send from your plugin to the wrapper. Obvisiously ffdecsa doesn't like it when it get's both the same time. So the video begins to stutter then. Last version of vplug doing this "correct" is v 1.3.8.
