Changing the Quality

Hey everyone, this is going to be a total n00b question, so I apologize in advance to those of you who are experts when you read this and it makes your head explode.

But, I want to lower the quality of the recordings GB-PVR makes, right now the recordings take up about 1GB for every 20 mins of video recording, I'd like to get it down to about an Hour per Gig.

I'm trying to do this by going in to Config -> Capture Sources -> Edit -> Recording Source -> Settings -> Quality Profile Settings. I then select the one I want and save and close it. But it's still on the same quality. I must not be doing this in the right place.

It can depend on the capture device you're using. GB-PVR is unable to change the bitrate on some cards (ie, all digitial cards).

In case you dont realise... when you do a 'quick rec' GB-PVR always uses the 'medium' profile. You can of couse do a 'record' instead and select what ever quality profile you want to use for that recording.

If you want to change this default profile used for the 'quick rec', then you can go into Config -> Capture Sources -> Edit -> Recording Source -> Settings -> Quality Profile Settings, select the medium profile and click 'edit' then set the bitrate and resolution to whatever you want.

Okey dokey. Yeah I use the Happauge USB 2.0 But I'll give that a shot. Thanks for the help and the work on this project it's 10 billion times better than Beyond TV.

There was one issue in the current release with the Hauppauge PVR USB2 that could cause this. Try going into the direct.ini file and setting INIT_MODE=IVAC for both the [Hauppauge PVR USB2] and the [Hauppauge PVR2 USB2] sections.

Yup, that seemed to do the trick, now I just gotta mess around with it to find the sweet spot.
