Thanks for the tips soccerdad! I had some limited success.

After literally 20 or so hard lockups, various levels of driver removal and mythtv flashbacks, I finally gave up on my test box  (which is my main pc, BTW.) I'm still convinced that it's conflicting with another bt878 driver installed somewhere, but either way, I can't find the (*&^%@^%$!!! thing.

I decided to install it in my "bt878 virgin box" - my main GBPVR box. Since the card is known for heat issues, I decided to move some other cards around to give it "some air" - yanking out an unused nic card and moving one of my PVR150's up a slot. This, naturally, caused me to have to reinstall the hauppauge drivers:eek: , and go through a series of recording tests to make sure the existing cards still worked.

I then installed the 1025, fired it up, and installed the drivers successfully! Smile I was even able to reboot it without some wierd crap happening! Big Grin Since it's late and the wife would kill me if I had a nice, big cable running across our office floor, I decided that I'm done for the night.

I'll run the cable tomorrow and see if I can get anything to work....

Okay, so I ran the cable, got everything set up, and no signal. Since I don't have a sat finder, I pulled an old dish box out of the garage, put on on the sat locater there. I called the house phone from my cell phone and set the house phone by the TV speaker and my cell phone on loudspeaker and put it in my shirt pocket so I could hear if I get a signal.

Basically I have the cable going to the 119 LNB (echostar 7 - according to lyngsat, there are some FTA channels on there - mostly music).

I have another (live) dish 500 setup and used the same elevation and skew settings from it, but no-go. I even tried "adjusting" it verrrrrry slowly to no avail.

For the life of me, I can't get a signal. I wonder if the LNBs are messed up or if there's something obvious that I'm missing.

Anyway, it's dark out now, so I give up for the night.

I hope you can get it to work. I did the exact same thing with and old dish box to find 119. Once you find it, you can put marks on the mount and use it as a referance for others. Funny thing was the dish box could not find 110, but my cheap sat finder and the programs could. I still don't know how to tell what sat you are looking at. My sat finder is just a little meter that you put in line. It "finds" lots of sats, but you don't know which sat it is. I have yet to find a program that will show you the sats ID.

Good luck (and don't fall off the roof  )

Okay, so went up for another hour using the same trick as before with the cell phone and dish receiver. I had some hope because occasionally I would get a "bloop" over the cell. I couldn't ever get the good signal to zero in, though. After a while I struck gold and got a "bloop bloop bloop" and then I didn't hear anything and my cell phone was dead. I finally figured out that the "bloop" was my cell phone warning me that the battery was low and the final warning was the multiple bloops before it shut off!

I grabbed my wifes' cell phone and switched to trying to find the 110 satellite (golf channel, whee!). Anyway, I never could get that one either so I gave up for the day.

I ordered a satellite finder, so I figure I can at least find out if the card is sending power to the LNBs, if it is, then maybe I can zero in on the satellite.

Ah, I remember the joys of trying to do this myself without any satellite finder.

One big tip. MAKE SURE the lnb power is off from the card (maybe turn off the pc) when you connect and disconnect the sat finder. I shorted out the coax and fried (lots of smoke and glowing stuff:eek: ) my 1027 card.

That doesn't sound like fun Wink Sounds kinda sucky, though, since I'm assuming that you have the sat finder on the roof. So you turn off the PC, go hook up the sat finder, boot the PC, find the satellite, turn off the PC, disconnect the Sat finder, then boot the PC? ..and hope that it works?

I was just skimming the post and I can't say I'm understanding all the stuff you guys are talking about... but... Am I reading this correctly? Are you able to "pluck" satellite broadcasts from the air freebie style???

There are satellite channels that are free to view - known as FTA (Free To Air). Mostly news & entertainment and that type of stuff. The proprietary carriers (Dish Network, Direct TV, etc) encrypt their transmissions. You can get a list of FTA channels at http://www.lyngsat.com

The channels are listed by satellite, for instance, click on Dish 110, and (at the bottom it lists the different types (encryped, HD, free, etc), and you can see that the Goltv is FTA.

This is very interesting, I would be curious about your findings. I have a triple LBN from directv would this one work or is it too new?
