Ive had this problem for a long time now, its only a minor issue but I thought Id finally post a query about it.

When I quit from watching live TV or a recording by pressing "back" I get a 10-15 second delay. The screen freezes during this pause.

Chanel changing is fast, just a second or 2 and pressing "menu" to go to the picture in picture menu mode is instantaneous.

I have Novat-USB and Novat-PCI device if that makes any difference.

Im sure that many months ago it wasnt a problem, it happened when I upgraded to a certain version, though cant remember what that version was but its been in every version since.

Is this length of delay usual?

If not is there anything I should look at?

Other than this tiny issue everything works perfectly and 99.12 with the new exclusive mode is working better than ever for me, my system is now in permenant use!!

Actually its worth mentioning that I get an exception when closing the config app, but it dosent effect anything.

Congrats to sub for another excellent release.

No. It should exit straight away.

Reproduce the error, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

Sorry for the delay, Ive killed all services, deleted all logs then ran gbpvr, selected a chanel through the tvguide then after a few seconds quit back to main menu.

It took over 5 seconds, which is actually quicker than usual, it often takes much longer, there dosent seem to be anything odd in the logs though.

Ive attached all the logs that were created.

Thanks for looking at this.

The only thing that stands out to me in the logs is the use of ReClock.

Quote:2007-03-05 21:17:17.343 VERBOSE Graph contains the following filters:

I was just about to post saying that I just tried the new exclusive vmr9 mode and that it caused an error with re-clock, removing re-clock then fixed the delay issue.

Re-clock posts an error dialog when trying to watch a recording, I can post more details on this if your interested but for now Im going to run for a while without re-clock.

I installed re-clock when I first setup my system as it definatly appeared to improve audio sync and the odd frame glitch at the time, Ill try running without it for now.

I guess from what your saying that re-clock isnt comonly used?

Honestly? No, not interested. Big Grin Just run without it.

No its not. I've only seen it in logs about three times ever, and I think its been the cause of the problem for each of those users.

Ok thanks Sub.

Removing re-clock has definatly improved things, I think like some others in other threads I installed it to "fix" glitching errors and it made an improvement at the time so I stuck with it, but in reality all it did was cover over the real underlyingsync issues.

I must have fixed the real underlying issues at some other point but never removed re-clock and its been sitting there ever since, and in fact as Ive just discovered re-clock itself causes issues.

I cant believe Ive had it sitting there for at least a year and its been giving me issues all along... Im kicking myself now for not ever checking it.. Smile

On another note Im now using the new exclusive mode and Ive had to shirnk my task bar as I get the tray icons flickering over the top of all menus / live tv in this new mode, its not an issue as Ive just hidden the task bar but thought Id mention it.

Is this new mode "expermiental"? or is it the preferred method if it works?

Thanks

Yeah, the icons painting through are annoying, but I dont know any work around for this other than setting the task bar to auto hide.

Quote:Is this new mode "expermiental"?
I termed it "experimental" because it was a big change and it is new. From the feedback I've had, it's working well, but can leave crap on the screen after exiting GB-PVR. This may not be a biggy for most people though.

I dont personally think its the preferred renderer. It comes with a few limitations, so it probably wont be the preferred method for a lot of poeple. nvidia card owners may perfer it given the problems they have with video tearing and aspect ratio control. There is a lot of limitations including no music visualisation, some plugins like UbuStream might not work, etc...

Just an update here, removing re-clock improved live tv by fixing the long delay and it looks like reclock was also producing a small stutter in live tv so this is now gone and live tv is great and exits back to main menu fine.

Downside is that removing re-clock makes playback of recordings stutter and tear a little, Ive seen in other posts that nvidia cards can be prone to tearing but I have a an ATI radeon 9250.

The good news though is that the new exclusive mode seems to fix these issues so I can safely remove re-clock and have good live tv and good playback of recordings at the same time.

I'm just a little concerned that I shouldnt be seeing tearing and stuttering in standard vmr9, but for now I can easily live with the limitations of fse so I guess Im happy.

Thanks

Some people do get tearing with VMR9, even with ATI cards. Nvidia cards are more prone to it, but it can also affect ATI owners.

This is true of other apps too, not just GB-PVR.
