Where DVD Covers say 2,3333:1, 1,85:1 and so on, they refer to the display aspect ratio (the image shape displayed on the screen).
I noticed you mentioned in an earlier post that you are using an LCD display, therefore your display has square pixels. There is nothing wrong with using the non-standard 768x576 on a square pixel display providing your aspect ratio corerection is based on square pixels, however I'm fairly sure GBPVR "auto' aspect ratio will not scale correctly under such circumstances. But what should work correctly is video decoders configured to "keep original/source aspect ratio". Keep in mind though, that DVD's are 720x576 (for PAL DVD), therefore requiring conventional aspect ratio correction, which is different to your special 768x576 aspect ratio correction.
At the end of the day, I think it is a lot simplier, uniform, and conventional to use 720x576 for PAL.
