Has anyone figured out the choppy HDTV problem? Is it a driver problem? Is everyone having the same problem? I removed all my splitters except one two way and it seemed to make it a little better but still choppy.

I have successfully gotter my HVR1600 to do QAM tuning on my Verizon Fios cable. Ie. I can tune and watch all the stations that I mapped in WINTV2000.
After I lick this next problem, the next step is to get GPVR all configured properly and use it.

I usedt he QAM.ini file that was supplied in here to do the scan. Thanks for supplying that as I was stuck before that. Once I spotted that file contents, it all made sense to me.

The channells that it found include all the OTA High Def channels plus the FIOS locals under channel 50.

Here is my new hurdel that I would appreciate any advise on.

I have a firewire connection between my PC and the Verizon DVR (QIP6416) and have found quite a number of channels that are totally in the clear for recording.
National Geographic Channel (NGCHD) is one such example. I can record that via Capdvhs to my PC.

I would like to be able to add unencrypted channels such as NGCHD to GBPVR so I can use it to schedule recordings (to leave the dinky disk on the DVR alone) via GBPVR instead of the Capdvhs tool (because it is very limited in capabilties) but I am stuck figuring out where in the frequency span NGCHD is.

I figure if I could understand the layout of the add channel config dialog then I could track down the unencrypted non OTA channel like NGCHD and get it working.

I did the channel scan and then the process of pulling down the drop down list for each channel and then picking the correct channel into from the scan.
I was pleased to get it all working BUT but I am merely doing this without a complete understanding of what I am doing.

Can you please explain to me the fields that you see in the enclosed picture.
I am talking about the ones that look like the one for WRC:
T:77,4,1~P:1004~V:2112~A:2113~PMT:49

WRC is OTA channel 4,shows up as channel 3004/qam-1004 in WinTV and is channel 807 on the Verizon 6416 DVR.

I know that somehow that string maps to the list in QAM.ini but I am stuck on this one.

Thank you very much,
Joe

T:77 = physical channel number 77 from the qam.ini
,4,1~ = ignored
P:1004~ = service/program (aka channel) identifier is 1004.
V:2112~ = video is carried in stream ID 2112 within the stream (referred to as the video pid)
A:2113~ = audio is carried in stream ID 2113 within the stream (referred to as the audio pid)
PMT:49~ = PMT data is carried in stream ID 49 within the stream (PMT pid).

OK, I used my Motorola box to figure out the frequency of the National Geographic Channel in HD. The box says 0139.750 MHZ. I put in 139750, 13975 in the QAM ini file and it didn't find anything. Even if the channel was encrypted wouldn't it be found. I think I am lost in translation. What goes in qam.ini for 0139.750 MHZ?

I think I mentioned earlier in this thread mine report 1750 higher so I would try 138000 which I believe is might be on channel 17 if you find it WinTV.

I am trying to do the same exact thing.

Look above at my last post and I talk about how this is in the clear such that I am allowed to record it via firewire.

I really want to be able to tune this via a tuner such as WinTV/GBPVR rather than use CapDVHS.

My provider is Verison. What is yours?
I am going to mess around with that frequency that you ppsted and see if I have any luck.

What is in the clear for QAM and what is in the clear by firewire usually are different.

Use my graphRecorder plugin as a source to record from firewire and the BDA drivers to record from QAM, then you have a dual tuner DVR.

I seem to remember there is a special class of channel marked as using '5C' copy protect, that a STB can display as unencrypted, but cannot record. Its possible QAM devices are purposefully skipping these types of channels.

I cant remember the exact terminology, but search for "firewire 5C" and I'm sure you'll find more info.

When viewing a QAM channel that shows a weak signal, it locks up my system. I can't exit the black screen that shows the signal and quality strength. Is there someway around this?
