I have an MKV file that contains subtitles (and x264 video), any idea if PVRX2 is capable of showing these. Do I need a specific filter of some description or is it just not possible?

No it cant. I dont use MKV files.

You might get lucky by finding some other directshow components you can install that will show these automatically during playback, but I dont know what these might be.

directvobsub Smile

just be careful of what other codecs you have installed, as some of them (xvid) can hose directvobsub and keep it from loading properly.

I reccomend the CCCP, and (if possible) CoreAVC

thanks Ted I'll give that a try. There are so many MKVs about these days that its getting impossible to avoid them. selecting separate audio tracks from them is also impossible with PVRX2...and its painful to demux/remux them with the right audio.

you dont have to... all you need to do is set the preferences of halaii media splitter, it should allow you to set the default audio/subtitle track. that is what I do, I currently have it set so it will default to japanese audio with english subtitles (anime!)

if you are having to much trouble with that... there is always zoomplayer, it has a decent remote interface (once you get the keys set properly) and allows you to set the audio/subtitle track from the app itself (and you can set remote keys to do it as well)

good luck

I have not found a way to enable subtitles (either embedded or in a separate srt file) for MKV files from within GBPVR seamlessly. I can do it with vobsub and media player or VLC, but not through GBPVR srt option. I use Haali and CoreAVC to play mkv files.

Oh, good point, I'd completely forgotten about the Haali settings. I'll give that a try later. Thanks for the pointers.

did you set the default subtitle options in haali?
I am going to ignore anything to do with VLC, since it does not use directshow.

try comparing the graph of the video when in GB-PVR, and in windows media player, or some other app where directvobsub loads correctly. it wouldnt load for me when I was using xvid for some reason. without more information I cant really say anything else, sorry.

Yes, fixed it. The problem was actually two fold. One was the Haali settings, and the other the fact I didn't have DirectVobSub at all.

Thanks for the help.
