Stu asked for which decoder you are using - which seems to be the problem if the recordings do the same when using directshow based players, and not with internal dscaler decoders.
What happens if you download & install the Dscaler5 decoders - same thing?
Also, from memory I think that there is a file called lastgraph.grf or something in the gbpvr folder - if you open that in graphedit, it will show you what is being used to display the picture under directshow - there could be some random filter in there.
(I am unsure if this file sticks around after you have finsihed watching, so maybe take a copy while the machine is playing back)
