Tuning off slightly after new Vid Card install

Stu asked for which decoder you are using - which seems to be the problem if the recordings do the same when using directshow based players, and not with internal dscaler decoders.
What happens if you download & install the Dscaler5 decoders - same thing?

Also, from memory I think that there is a file called lastgraph.grf or something in the gbpvr folder - if you open that in graphedit, it will show you what is being used to display the picture under directshow - there could be some random filter in there.

(I am unsure if this file sticks around after you have finsihed watching, so maybe take a copy while the machine is playing back)

I was running the InterVideo nonCSS, but tried the Dscaler decoder as well with the same result...

im still thinking hardware driver in windows media player are you using high quality mode?
try changing that to the oposite to (overlay)
its in the performance /advanced tab

things i would try
different video card driver
download mpv mpeg decoder (free and reliable with no extra shit to screw up)

directx9 make sure its up to date

It looks like the tuner is failing to lock onto the channel correctly. I'm surprised the tuning assistant would behave any differently though, since they pretty much share most of their code. There isnt really much you can tweak either... GB-PVR just tells the device "Canada/Cable/64" when it wants it to tune to cable channel 64, and the drivers and hardware take of the rest.

You could try entering the frequency in place of the channel number (in the capture source channel list) if you know it, then tweak the number a bit either way trying to get a better lock.

Alright, had a chance to try a recording. The green bars/color ghosting is present in the recording as well. It is also present when played back directly in WMP. However, the video is fine if I play the recording back in DScaler. So I'm guessing there is some conflict with DirectShow? Non-recorded content plays fine in GBPVR and WMP. Where do I go from here...?

Interesting. After doing some more experimenting, it seems to be ffdshow that's causing the problem. Changing the Deinterlace filter and de-selecting "Use ffdshow if installed" has eliminated the ghosting/green bars. Any suggestions filters other than ffdshow to get decent video smoothing?

The previous card was nVidia as well as the new one, but using a later release of the drivers. Perhaps a conflict between the last release and ffdshow? Not sure...

Ok, looks like it was the deinterlace settings within ffdshow. The previous ffd mpeg deinterlace filter I had selected was causing issue with the new card/driver. I changed to the same filters I had enabled in DScaler (using Toms), now the picture quality is quite good and with the PVR functionality back!
