I was hoping someone could shed some lite on an issue I am having.

I just got an hvr-1600 for Christmas and when I scan the cable for qam channels i find about 10 or 20. When I am looking at the picture in the preview window it is seamless.

When i start trying to watch these channels in GBPVR there is frequent skipping and hiccups.

I feel like it must be some setting since it runs so well during the mapping. Any suggestions or help is much appreciated!

The tiny little preview window, with no OSD support, is pretty easy on the system. A real deal in the application is a bit harder on your system. What video card do you have?

You could check it works better when you use the 'VMR9 Fullscreen Exclusive' video renderer.

I have a Nvidia GEforce 7300 PCI Express it has 256mb video ram.

It runs the same on either vmr9 or vmr9 fullscreen.

Edit:

I also use the nvidia purevideo decoder if that helps any

My system is a dual core with 2gb of ram so it should be capable of handling it I would think.

I'm not really sure where the Nvidia 7300 range of devices fit in capabilities when it comes to high def.

Try another video decoder to see if it does any better.

I have a dual core E6550 @ 2.33 ghz, 2 gb ram and NVIDIA geforce 8600 gt running windows vista home premium and an ATI 650 theater pro tv card for over the air HD. I have not been able to get completely studder free hd. What I have is quite good and very usable but I cannot eliminate the studder.

I found the best decoder for my setup to be either
FFDSHOW MPEG-4 Video decoder which I got from here http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow

or the

ATI MPEG Video Decoder which i got from here http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_cataly...50-vista32 by installing the AVIVO component.

The studder seems more pronounced with sports broadcast (hockey, football and basketball).

I have installed all the latest drivers, set the priority of pvrx2, and monitored the cpu, disk, memory and cannot determine what is the cause or the cure.

Not sure about your video card but I am able to do stutter free HD with a 2.4GHz Pentium Single Core, so horsepower isn't likely your problem. The only decoder that can do stutter free HD is the PureVideo decoder. There is a 30 day eval for this encoder, I suggest you grab that and see if that improves your situation.

Since my system is so low on horsepower I had to go to other extremes such as shutting off the task manager(made a big difference) and bumping up the priority of the decoders I was using. I also run FSE.

I am using a 7600GS AGP BTW.
