Hi guys, I have just finished building a GBPVR system for my brother, using PVRX2.

It's all working great, except one small problem.
When watching Live TV or videos (xvid, etc), everything is perfect.
When I press record, the playback becomes very stuttery (like 1 or 2 frame a second) but the audio remains perfect.
When I watch the recording after it has completed, it is also suffering from the same stuttery playback.

I'm guessing it is to do with the video decoder, but I have tried several and they all give the exact same performance (well some are worse and also stutter during live TV).

I am using an ASUS M2A-VM motherboard with onboard X1250 video card.
AMD Athlon X2 6000+
1GB DDR2-800 RAM

Same spec system works fine with other media center applications (MCE and Media Portal, which I am using for my media center - will be swapping to GBPVR as soon as I get my brother's one sorted).

Any ideas or pointers would be great.

Thanks in advance

Are you using a DVB card? If so the mux you are using is the most likely source of your problem.

What is the output of Mux Checker on your machine, and what mux do you have selected on the misc tab of the config app?

I'm using a Hauppauge PVR-500

the mux is currently set to ATI MPEG Mux

Mux Checker output:

Quote:GB-PVR has detected the following multiplex filters on your machine:

Found: ATI MPEG Multiplexer
FILE: C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\atidvcr(9.14.0.60504).dll
VERSION: 9.14.0.60504

If you're running WinXP SP1 or higher, you will also be able to use the built-in DVR-MS mux filte

Assuming your on XP SP1 or higher, when you set it to record with the DVR-MS mux does it help?

That makes a difference to the recorded TV.
Recorded is no perfect, but it is still stuttery when watching the show you are recording.

I have also found that say I am recording C4, it is stuttery to watch. But if I got to TV2 for example, it is smooth as (guessing as it will be using the other tuner). I thought maybe it was performance related, but that fact that other channels that aren't being recorded are still smooth rules that out.

oh, I'm running XP Pro SP2 btw

I didn't think the mux had anything to do with recording analog??

Have you checked your two tuners are working properly? I had one PVR-500 that had a faulty tuner that gave similar symptoms to what you are describing. What I did was disable (un-tick)all channels on one tuner in the config to test & then re-enabled them & disabled the other tuner & tested again & found one was faulty (replace under warranty fixed my problem Smile )

You are of course correct. The mux has nothing to do with analog cards.

When I asked if he was using a DVB card, and what mux filter he was using, and he supplied the output of mux checker. My robot responses kicked in... (unfortunately over looking the PVR500 bit and read it as Nova-T 500).

haaaaa, so that's how you manage to answer so many questions. you've not only developed GBPVR but also an high quality auto-response system. i just wonder how your auto-response has managed to cope with that gibberish questions here, such a fault tolerant auto-response sys must be worth a fortune Big Grin

I'm also battling stuttered playback. It's playing back at about 1/2 the normal frame rate. This is something new, it used to be OK. I haven't made any changes to the system lately that I know of. It doesn't seem to matter which tuner records the content, nor whether the content is HD or SD.
