DVD playback does not work

After a failed upgrade to 1.2.9 and a reinstall of 1.2.9 I can not get the DVD player to work. It doesnt even show me a picture. It's just black.

I'm running Vista Ult. SP1. MPV codec from free-codecs does not work.

Any ideas?

when you actually choose a decoder you are doing it under the dvd playback tab
do you have anyother decoders installed that you can choose from

MPV codec from free-codecs does not work.

The MPV decoder will not work. It doesnt support CSS encrypted video like that found on a DVD.

If you install software like PowerDVD, then you should be able to use the Cyberlink Decoder that came with it for watching DVDs in GB-PVR.

I installed PowerDVD 8, but the cyberlink decoder does not come up as a choice under DVD menu and Video Recorder. It didn't come up under the playback menu either.

Any other ideas?

PowerDVD8 came out after the current GB-PVR release, so its decoder isnt listed as one of the known decoders, but if you can easily add it. Using notepad, edit config.xml and add "CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (PDVD8)" to the <SupportedDVDDecoders> setting in config.xml

Ok.. that works.. now I have picture. Thank you!
Just installing powerdvd trial I guess gave me the correctdecoder.

But I cant see the menu of the DVD.. any ideas there?

So I installed a bunch of codecs and now the DVD playback does work. But only for a certain region of movies.
Is there a freeware program that can help me play different regions with GBPVR or am I just gonna have to play them in VLC?

GB-PVR doesnt have any control over the region coding implemented in the DVD navigator, but if you'd ripped the disk to the hard drive this would have removed any region coding, or I think you can run software like AnyDVD in the background.
