I use PVRX2 to open DvbDream satellite viewing program. I want to be able to control DVbDream with the Hauppauge remote control while the app is open and return to PVRX2 control when the app is closed. Is there a way to do this?

use HIP.

Set up the 2 programs, and it should allow only pssing the remote commands to dvbdream when it's in focus.

Why do you use DVbdream, compared to GBPVR all the time?

Or try Intelliremote - it too can change actions based on what program is in the foreground.

I was hoping I could somehow pass the commands from within PVRX2. I guess I'll look into HIP.

I use DvbDream because my Genpix HD sat receiver is not supported in PVRX2.

The Hauppauge remotes can be "Taught" to control most applications by modifying the Remote.ini file. You can add sections to the remote.ini to have the hauppauge remote send commands to the active application and even customize what keystrokes it sends.

To open DVBDream, I put the program in as a menu item pointing to the executable. That way it opens in its own window. You have to go into the remote.ini file and add a section referring to the id of the DVBDream program. You will have to map your remote button settings inside this section. Once that is done and you restart the remote, all should be well. You will be able to open the program, control it, and then go back to GBPVR when you exit.

You can open and control any program using this method.
