Hi

I am experiencing something odd when playing back recordings from BBC HD.
  • With the H.264 Decoder set to Cyberlink H.264/AVC Decoder (PCM45) - no audio/no video
  • With the H.264 Decoder set to System Default - works perfectly with approx 50% CPU utilisation (Core2Duo 2.4Ghz) using Cyberlink H.264/AVC Decoder (PCM45)

GBPVR logs and screenshot from GraphEdit show that something is broken when I select the decoder but I don't understand why.

I also note, that despite the Cyberlink Audio Decoder being selected, the Elelink one is being used. This is not a major problem I suppose.

The other really interesting thing is that if I simply rename the same recording to .mpg and play it in PowerCinema (presumably using same decoder, plays nicely (even smoother) at about 5% CPU utilisation. It was in fact this discovery which led me to start playing about with the settings in GBPVR in the first place!!

Any help appreciated...

Many many thanks for the great software, with a great support community :-)

I forgot to mention also that I am using what I think is the latest patched GBPVRTSReader.ax (2nd Jan 09 10:16am).

After some searching I have found this post about manually changing the registry to enable hardware video acceleration, which could explain the higher CPU utilisation when playing from PVRX2 so will give it a try:-

http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?t=35842&page=2

Does anyone have any ideas about why selecting the Cyberlink H.264 (rather than using System Default and using it anyway) causes a broken graph?

Thanks

might wanna try the latest beta6 ffdshow http://downloads.sourceforge.net/ffdshow...081219.exe or the MPC Video decoder as both now offer accelleration for h264 and vc1 plus a few others...Big Grin
ffdshow doesn't accell decoding but it works perfectly without it and only about 40-50% cpu on 1080p...so should be able to handle tv easy..
smooth as glass here but low end cpus may have problems..

MPC decoder seems a bit glitchy for me on occasion...but it works...doesn't clean up edit errors but next one should be sweet..
MPC uses FULL dxva so only about 10-20% cpu...
EDIT: i think i've solved the occasional glitches w/MPC..set 'error recognition' to 'aggresive'...
oh and don't forget to give it 2 decoding threads.. [completely passed over that one..lol]

cyberlink uses some weird routing inside their playpath so their decoders don't always play nice with other programs...with full accell i get bad stutters only with cyberlink..seems something else is needed to get same accell as in pdvd..or they've disabled it on purpose..
every other dxva codec works fine....intervideo's aren't really usable..

i think the reason cyberlink doesn't work same when you specify it is the order of colorspace chosen...i see same thing when i build graphs manually...
it seems to change output somehow depending on input, so unless you let it re-detect and adjust when connecting up, it'll be kinda weird...
say connect it up and render output, then change input file type,keeping outgoing connections, and it stutters...
however ,remove out connection and render file's output pin and it all connects and works fine....

basically, if you manually connect the output before letting windows render the graph, it glitches...not so if the filters are just in the graph and not connected...

but YMMV Big Grin

Hi pBS

Many thanks for the suggestion - I have downloaded the file.

Since the registry change above has worked and I am now getting <10% CPU utilisation on HD Playback using Cyberlink H.264, I haven't installed it yet, since I am a little nervous of not being able to get back to the state it is now! At some point I will do a full system backup and have a play with it.

I am really happy to say that I now have very few issues at all, the only ones left sort out are:-

- Cannot get DVB subtitles (UK Freesat) to show up - they are definitely recorded, as I can see them if I use VLC to playback (I am not sure if this is implemented?)

- My NOVA-HD-S2 was supplied with a remote control receiver with a plug bigger than the port on the card! (I will write to them!)

Making it work has been fun, and for what I have now, it was well worth it!

stick with the cyberlinks for now...they are stable and if you've got dxva working then that's the best quality to date...
it's just nice that there are open source solutions emerging now that actually work...Smile
ffdshow works excellently, but without any hope of it ever doing accel...
and mpc has occasional glitches on high bitrate stuff, but is fully accelerated if the hardware supports it..

still first gen pretty much, so improvements will be made...mostly because of bluray and european tv being 264 gaining wide use...

I am unable to locate the registry entries detailed in this thread

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cyberlink\Common\cl264dec\pvrx2\UIUseHVA]
"0x00000000 = Accelleration OFF
"0x00000001 = Accelleration ON

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cyberlink\Common\cl264dec\pvrx2\UIVMode]
"0x00000001 = Auto Select
"0x00000002 = Force Bob
"0x00000004 = Force Weave

I am using Vista and the playback is bad using Cyberlink and CoreAVC.

Thanks for your assistance

I'm not sure if you mean you are missing the whole lot, or just the PVRX2 part.

I would try going into the Config.exe, make sure Cyberlink is selected then click the settings button (...) to the right, make a change to the DxVA setting (just change whichever its on to the other) then save the config.

After that if you go back into the registry I expect you find [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cyberlink\Common\cl264d ec\config\UIVMode]

Assuming you do, I would check the value is the one you want and then rename Config to PVRX2.
