I having some codec problems & was wondering which codecs are recommended.
I really only want to do stuff related to DVB so mpeg2/HD/ac3/TS files etc.
some of my ts files need hdtvpump or tsfilesource to work, but I having problems getting them to automatically connect to suitable decoders etc.
I am reasonably familiar with graphedit and changing codec priorities, but still need to know more to setup the system well.
And recommendations on (1) codecs and (2) how to set them up?
thanks

I know its a risky buisness advising anyone to fiddle with their codec setup (rest assured I have backed up the system).
Any general advice or links to sites with instructions/advice would be appreciated.

For mpeg2 I have never had any trouble with the cyberlink PDVD decoders (both PDVD7&8), also the ATI one - but no idea if you have ATI hardware. I believe others have managed to get ffdshow (latest try out versions) to work well also but i've not bothered as the above works perfectly for me. For audio I use AC3Filter for SPDIF passthrough and have more recently been using ffdshow, again spdif passthrough and both work perfectly for non AC3 channels.

My big problem is H264 (1080i) / AC3 broadcasts (namely the BBC HD channel). I cannot get recordings to play back in sync for love nor money. Pre 1.3.x it worked fine setting it to use the cyberlink ts reader, but with 1.3 you cant, you are forced to use the internal ts reader and it cannot get it right. I've tried every combo of Cyberlink/CoreAVC H264 decoders along with AC3Filter and ffdshow for sound (spdif passthrough) and none will play recordings in sync. Live TV is fine. But recordings start off OK but within a minute or 2 the sound is ahead of the picture and it gets worse over time. For Bluray playback I can only get it to play in sync using the MPC H264 decoder and ffsdhow for audio - but this combo isn't available within GBPVR as the MPC H264 decoder isn't supported. This problem is driving me insane, so anyone with advice on how to get H264(1080i)/AC3 to play back in sync then please let me know!

For MPEG2 i am using Cyberling "CLVsd.ax" ver.8.2.0.1117. Very good picture quality, possibility of DXVA, brightnes/gama/etc correction.

I think posting here downloading link is little ilegal, so if somebody want it, PM me.

Installing whole Power DVD is not very good idea, this software is prety messy and mess your system a lot. Even if you uninstall it, lot of mess remain in registry.

I to have been struggling with BBC HD since mid December

I have tried Cyberlink, Core and ffdshow codecs etc etc .

The best playback has been with Power DVD 8 but I have failed to find a way of switching off the blind commentary track. Windows media player works after selecting audio and setting to stereo but the picture tears during fast scenes.

The picture freezes using GBPVR even after trying the registry hacks detailed in prior posts (100% of resources used) but the sound is OK

I am almost at the point of abandoning HD recordings and hope that the new version of Videoredo will resolve the audio stream problems when released later this year.

Are you sure you have the right channel selected in from the sat scan? There are two BBC HD's listed in mine, one with a second AC3 track. I've never had the blind commentary....

What audio decoder do you use? I have no problem with the picture playback, it's lovely looking and smooth, but the sync with the audio is driving me mad.

I was using the non ac3 entry described BBC HD entry .

I have now changed the scan file to use the AC3 entry and set PVR2 to record Hustle tonight.

I have been using the free AC3 filter for GBPVR and presumably Cyberlink when using Power DVD. I have been unable to use GBPVR for playback or live TV because of the processer usage. I am using a ATI Radeon HD3400 graphics card and this may be part of the problem but the sound sync has always been good,

I have just installed AC3Filter (not using spdif) & it works great - now all TS files (SD) play fine using graphedit. (also using HDTVpump and cyberlink decoder).

This is interesting - I have noticed that changing the setting in the config program to enable/disable the internal TS reader doesn't seem to affect the graphs. Hence some (not all) of my other TS files don't play at all.
Thanks for your help.

Hmm, if others dont have sync issues I'm really thinking it's time for a reinstall to clean up my system. Maybe I'll go for vista32 if I do a reinstall just to simplify things further. I think my problems are made worse by installing ffdshow for Bluray playback (needed for the HD audio streams), even selecting AC3Filter in the config app it still loads ffdshow in the graph somewhere for AC3 playback. I've tried disabling AC3 in ffdshow but I still cant get things in sync. I'll play around with graphedit some more to see if I can get in sync playback using the GBPVR TS Reader and various other codecs, if I can, then I'll worry about how to get GBPVR to use them!

Sub, just to confirm one thing, using the GBPVR TS Reader it then uses the MPEG Demuxer which has I think 3 audio output pins (AC3, AAC and one other) does it connect all of them to a filter regardless of which streams the ts file has? As I can see several audio decoder filters in the pvrx2 logs and cant tell why it's using them all, but if this is why, it's make sense and the use of ffdshow is probably not causing problems as there is no AAC stream. The graph produced by gbpvr crashes graphedit so I cant see for sure what's going on.

Yes, it hooks them all up, so that its ready to change to a channel with a different audio format without having to restart the graph.

Are you saying that hooking the GBPVR TS Reader to the MPEG2 Demultiplexer is crashing graphedit? Or is it happening later when you try adding your decoders?
