Problem playing back Prime on Freeview

Just started recoding Prime that is now on Freeview DVB-T. However I can't get GBPVR to playback properly. 1.3.11 just jumps around and 1.4.7 plays better but gets stuck in now and again. When I play the ts recording with PDVD7 it works fine so at the moment I'm switching to it to view my recordings.

Is there a way I can get GBPVR to use PDVD7 for playback?

You cant configure GB-PVR to use an external player. You could try selecting the Cyberlink decoders though.

I used to have those problem until I 'amped' up my signal strength. Powerdvd seems to ignore 'blips' better. No problems now, better signal=no problems
I can now play all my recording inside GBPVR and no longer have to use Powerdvd.

Thats a good point. Prime is not on the same mux as TVNZ and TV3/C3, so you may not have noticed reception problems on the Kordia mux since there hasnt been much to watch there yet.

I'm also interested in this... iirc, there's been no way to view real-time signal strength in GBPVR... or is there? (Or any good 3rd-party tools?) I'm sure I've been down this road before....

No there isnt. Unfortunately nearly ever tuner and manufacturer seems to provide different values, and different ranges, making it next to impossible for GB-PVR to display anything useful in this respect.

What did you have to do to "amp" your signal strength?

Not that model, the one I got had F-Connectors on it. Covers the signal for VHF / UHF.
My model also didn't feature variable gain, but was $10 cheaper (got it from DSE)

Seems to work well for my signal. (if you do get that type, and only have the one output I'd advise terminating the other with a blank as it seemed to give me better signal than having it open)

It may pay you to bench-mark your DVB-T Bit error rate before and after making ant/cable/splitter/amp changes, to make sure you have actually made your signal reception better.

I used the free "TSreader lite" to check the 3 Akl freq 538,570,666 for the Mux's MPEG2 transport error counters.

It shows error counters for CRC, continuity and TEI, which should all be at around zero after 5 minutes or so for a good reception setup.
It also shows the flakey tuner's Quality number, but that's only good for a before and after comparison as sub said previously.

To setup choose the BDA DVB-T tuner option and don't have PVRx2 running obviously, enter the mux frequencies and 8Mhz signal bandwith. hit OK and it should show the MUX bitrate and the important error counters are down the bottom.
You have to do this for each of the MUX's frequencies seperately (matching what you see in the Config app's tune request)

At least it gives you some hard numbers to go on, as signal problems can be a real pain to fix.

To be honest, I think the best benchmark you can get is if the picture has artifacts / stuttering etc - don't really care about the numbers in behind.
