Has anyone been able to disable Windows Media Center in Win 7 from launching with the MCE Remote, yet still allow that remote to be used with GB-PVR?

At the very least, disabling the MCE button (or whatever it's called) on the remote would be helpful.

Anytime I've read anything about this it was mentioned you had to disable or uninstall Media Center. That was in XP MCE and I don't know about W7.
You could try asking on The Green Button. There's lots of MS people who monitor it though I'm not sure how happy they will be that you're using another PVR. :p

No thanks, I'll stay away from that place for now. Smile I'll see if anyone posts something here. That remote and the button are the least of my problems right now with Win7 and GBPVR.

You can definitely disable mce in Win7 if you're not going to use it. I did it and I'm using the MCE remote with GBPVR using PBS no software guide. Works well.

Sweet, how'd you do it? In Vista I read you can disable some services. Some had to rename and exe. Pretty much the same in Win7? I can easily handle doing the above, just need a shove in the right direction. Thanks!

Control Panel --> Program --> Turn Windows feature on/off

You'll see the MCE option under Media Features, just uncheck it.

You should be good to go.

if you use my no-software mce remote trick, you don't even have to disable it..it remaps the keys so windows won't know you pressed green button...Smile
[i think i remap it to home]

even started on a wiki page....Wink

I have installed LM Remote keymap to fix this. My Greenbutton starts GB-pvr now and I can still test the MCE if I would like.
Earlier I used Eventghost, but this one is easier to edit and I can keep the original drivers for the remote.

THANK YOU, I knew I saw your post before, but my search-fu failed me. Thanks for the wiki entry!

yea, i'm tryin to de-mystify HIP setup with mce dongles...
it's rather easy now that i sent him updated pvrx2 codes...
and just added a blasting method that uses very little software on the no-software mce wiki page...[they kinda go together well, tho blasting does use *some* software..lol]
so simple you use a batch file to configure it..

it's like blasting using nothing but what's absolutely necessary..
i've gotten it as quick as my net2hipsend so response is pretty zippy..Big Grin
