The radio playback sound quality can be better. The LAME MP3 codec is used to convert the cable radiochannel. Is it possible to increase the bitrate? If yes, how?

Thank you,

Chris

BTW: Great product!

I dont know how to programmatically change the LAME encoder bitrate, so we just have to use the default.

is there no way to use the lame command line switches?

It's different from this command line utility, you dont use command line parameters to control it.

Thank you for your reactions.

What is the default bitrate?
How does the encoding work within LAME. Do you have contacts with the programmers at LAME or do you just use their plugin?

It should be possible to make it sound better. The WinTV2000 program that came with my PVR350 includes a radio feature that sounds a lot better.
I prefer the layout and looks of the GB PVR. Also the option to control with your remote is a great bonus.

There is some room for improvement here. Keep up the good work!

Thank you,

I have no idea.

No, I've never talked to them. GB-PVR just uses their plugin if it's installed.

I'm not surprised. Their radio doesnt need to go through an encoding process. Its just sent as the original signal straight to the sound device. GB-PVR encodes it to an MP3 file for compatibility with the MVP.

To be honest with you, radio hasn't been a huge priority for me. I probably spent one afternoon about a year ago on it. This got us to where GB-PVR's radio support is today, and havn't touched it since. Sorry.

At least you are honest and straight forward.
Thanks for your explanation, it's all clear to me now.

In Holland we have some pretty cool radiostations. I like to play them, while looking at pictures etc.
I can use the Jukebox option or the Webradio instead. 977 is pretty cool too.

So it isn't possible to use the default radio feature from within GB PVR? Maybe worth a try in the future (if you can find the time, off course). Smile

Thanks again,

You could always try rigging up some 'custom task' which executes the Hauppauge radio software passing it a command line. I dont know if its possible or not, but if you get it going, let us know - other may also be interested in doing it.

This was done more than a year ago. However, there were some pecularities with the radio software: it doesn't stop properly when asked to...

Someone did a plugin for this. Don't know where it is...

Sub, is it possible to use or access Net Radio stations that are paid for stations. here in the states we have XM Satellite radio, I can access it via their web site (http://www.xmradio.com), it uses Windows Media Player... I'm sure it would take quite a bit of magic to make this work.. but thought I'd ask.
