My live TV output aspect ratio appears slightly wrong but in trying to fix this I am quickly getting out of my depth and would appreciate some assistance.

My system is quite simple with an analogue PVR-150 recording from Cable TV via an S-Video connector. The Video card is an nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS. The TV is a Sharp HD which can run 1920x1080. The Video card feeds the DV via a DVI adaptor to an HDMI cable.

When I turn on the OSD on the FFDShow codec's it always shows the input being SAR 16/15 DAR 4/3 with a resolution of 720x576. However the output shows the same thing and even if I try and force a resize with FFDShow the output resolution remains at 720x576.

The video appears vertically stretched on the TV and I would appreciate knowing where to start with this.

Regards
David

Maybe start by press F7 a few times to see if it helps.

Thanks Sub - your support is always appreciated. I have tried that and while it altered the aspect ratio a little it is still off. I can get full screen res with a good aspect ratio by turning off the resize for Mpeg2 in FFDshow but if I leave the OSD on it still shows an output resolution of 720x576 even though the native output res is 1920x1080. It this what you would expect?

Regards
David

You're feeding it a analog PAL 720x567 signal, so I'd expect it to say that. Of course the video card ends up resizing each frame to fill whatever resolution you're running your desktop at.

GB-PVR will only report a 1920x1080 framesize if you were watching TV3 on Freeview HD (DVB-T), since it uses 1080i. TV1/2 would report 1280x720. Pretty much everything else will report 720x576.
