Strangely in your file.txt, it looks like you were continuously skipping. Can you see if temporarily removing any wireless input device makes any difference? ie, wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, IR remote etc. There was one person a few years ago who was getting phantom arrow keys from their wireless remote, which caused much confusion.
I unplugged everything except the power, added a USB mouse and had the same result. If you can't think of anything else I am definitely at a loss. <shrug>

It is stupidly strange, it's a Lenovo I5 tiny with 4 GB RAM and claims an Intel 4600 GPU so "should" be good enough.

I do not intend to give up the fight but, at the moment, I think we have to admit we lost the round. Huh It records TV which plays perfectly through any other player, it is just the NPVR client which seems to be an issue.

Having said all that, thank you very much for your support, it is really appreciated. If I happen to stumble (and that is the best it would be) across anything which improves it, etc. I will be sure to let you know but, for the time being, I think it would be best to close this support case as a lost cause. <really sad face with tears>

Hey buddy,

I coincidentally just built a media PC using an Intel i5 with integrated 4600 graphics.

Initially, I tried out Media Portal 2, and as I tried out different skins to make it less clunky, suddenly I found myself with audio but no picture whilst watching live digital TV. Being new to it all, I assumed the bug was media portal, and after failing to fix the issue with uninstalls and reinstalls, I gave up on it - and then decided to look into Kodi as I had a mate rave about it back in the day. And boy, was he not wrong, Kodi is freakin' awesome!!! Heart Heart Heart

HOWEVER, oddly enough, the black screen persisted with TV live playback. Audio was loud and clear, but no picture. But thankfully Kodi allowed me to try different graphics settings, and with a bit of tinkering in the settings, I found the "Pixel Shaders" option rendered, and I had video back! But it was so slicey and ugly with interlace issues. Dodgy yuk!

Then I recalled that I updated the Intel Graphics driver with the Intel app whilst playing with Media Portal earlier, and low-and-behold, that was found to be the problem! I downgraded my Intel graphics drivers to the latest/last release on the Gigabyte website, and my problem was solved instantly. I can render TV using the Kodi DXVA setting using Intel Driver 20.19.15.4531. Smile

Thank you Karlstens, your reply is very much appreciated.

I always thought it was possibly related to the graphics driver but between the 3 vendors they all competed with each other to tell me either a.) I had the latest driver or b.) the driver I was trying to install was incompatible or c.) see the other vendor for the correct driver.

Unfortunately your suggestion did not work for me but it did send me down another rabbit hole where I found instructions to grab the beta driver (version 15.40.26.4474) from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27414?v=t unzip and force igdlh64.inf to install.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, made it work as planned. I am sure there are probably later drivers which would work, but I now have a working NextPVR which is also acting as an add-on for Kodi and that means I can now move forward with convincing the minister to migrate away from WMC on Win 7.

Thank you to everyone for the help, I am looking forward to using this now it is working.

Cheers,

2020-11-02, 06:01 PM (This post was last modified: 2020-11-02, 06:09 PM by pol098.)
I was just about to post the following when I checked further and found this thread. Rather late for the original poster, but maybe of use to anyone who comes here from a search (plenty of useful search terms here I hope):

"I am using an Intel processor with integrated 4600 graphics, Win10/64. This has always worked fine with NextPVR for live and recorded TV and anything I use it for. (Intel Core i7-4710MQ @ 2.5GHz, not overclocked; 4th generation). I was using Intel driver win64_154037.4835.exe of 6 November 2017 ("4835"). When I updated to 5107 (10 Jan 2020), NextPVR did not display correctly. I think I didn't try 5144 of 18 August 2020, but just tried 5166 of 23 October 2020; it fails in the same way.

The problem: when displaying live TV or playing back a recording the screen is black most of the time with very brief flashes of picture every second or so.

If anyone has any light to throw on this, I'd be grateful; in the meantime 4835 works fine, no problem (except the Intel updater nagging me to update). If not, at least anyone else with the same problem can know they're not alone. (I hope this isn't duplicated; I searched the forums for "Intel 4600" in the last year, with no hits.)"

So the workaround is win64_154037.4835.exe

Does anyone know if there is any way to tell Intel about this that might start something moving, rather than going straight to the circular file? They do have a Bug Bounty system, but that's for paying for security vulnerabilites.

Best wishes, HTH someone, pol098

Are you using the LAV decoder? Is the problem only LiveTV or are recordings also affected. If it is only LiveTV I suspect a NextPVR issue.

Thanks for fast response. The decoders are:

Video Renderer: EVR
Audio & Music Renderers: default
MPEG2 Video: MainConcept (HCW) MPEG-2 Video Decoder
H.264 Video: Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder
HEVC Video: LAV Video Decoder

I set them up a long time ago, and don't remember what or why. Possibly the MPEG2 one is from Hauppauge software (I'm using a Hauppauge USB tuner).

Whatever the problem is, it isn't purely NextPVR: it works fine with an older 4600 driver; and I've since found a lot of criticism about the buggy v5107 driver on Intel community forums. The latest driver, of a few days ago, is as bad for me. I don't expect anyone to bother to fix the driver for this old chip. By the way, according to the forums the problems described (different from this) didn't manifest on the 4600 graphics component on all Intel CPUs; it affected GT1 but not GT2 or GT3e hardware.

Regarding the problem: it seems to be EXACTLY what was described earlier in this thread: live TV and recordings, old and new, play back in flashes on a black screen; recordings work fine if played through VLC. I intend to keep the old driver, and maybe disable the Intel updater that nags me, until this 6.5-year-old portable computer dies (or I do).

A couple of links (not worth wasting time, no solution)

Best wishes.

The LAV decode is still the recommended decoder on these forums and have solved problems in the past.

Thanks for this useful comment. For the time being I'll leave well enough alone - I have a working system and am not worried about a slightly old driver. I remember having some trouble with decoder setup (long ago), and don't want to get into that again (though it's probably just a matter of changing the decoder, and changing it back if it's not better). If I do see whether LAV is better I'll report back at some time. Best wishes
