I have one channel where the audio is just static. It used to be fine, is fine on CATV, and can be fixed in Win-TV (but it can't be fixed tuning there and using FreqCopy).

I may play w/ the reg setting next just for that channel, but I wanted to try re-running the TuningAssistant first. Will this screw anything up w/ my current config? (eg, lose any associations w/ DB info, etc) Or will it just re-do the freqencies for the exisitng channels?

Re-TuningAssistanrt didn't help. Just the one channel, too. Not sure what else to try.

It used to work until the last update or so (I don't watch it much). Not sure when it lost sound. It's not silent...just blasts static, but picture is fine.

If you've been running other TV software, one of these may have change the system tuning tables.

I only run GB, but I did try tuning in Win2k and then using FreqCopy, but it didin't affect it. I hadn't done/run anything from when I last had it until I lost it.

Freqcopy also fiddles the system tuning tables. There was some discussion in the past about what to registry settings to delete to undo changes to the tuning tables. Unfortunately I cant remember the exact details.

To remove all custom tuning frequencies...

Go here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\TV System Services\TVAutoTune

Remove all values under keys labeled TS0-0, etc...

You might want to export that section of the registry just for safety, but I've always found that if anything is actually in there, it means problems...

I have a stupid question about Tuning Assistant... Once it locks onto a channel, does it also update the registry to the exact frequency, or do I have to write all that down and edit the registry myself?

The Tuning Assistant doesnt change any settings. It's just meant to help people understand what channel numbers are used to broadcast which stations.

It doesnt change any registry settings, and I never intended that any one would use the the information it supplies to change registry settings.

Well, what do I do if the card doesn't tune right on some channels then? They seem to tune fine in the tuning assistant, but not in GBPVR (some channels have noise and/or zebra lines)
I mean I understand you didn't intend it that way, but can it be used like that ?

Sure, there is nothing to stop your from writing down frequencies and manually editing the registry if you want to, but the tuning assistant wont do it for you.
