That snippet of log doesnt show an attempt to play a file. This just shows a second or so of GB-PVR starting up.

Can you reproduce the problem by playing a file, then repost the log? Make sure you do it immediately afterwards, because this log is overwritten next time you start GB-PVR.

Thanks for the info. I uninstalled ffdshow and now it works like it used to. On another note, do you know of any urls that I can visit to get up to speed on this PVR stuff since I am new to it. I have dumb questions like: "Are video decoders built into any video cards?", "Is there a cheap hardware video decoder that can be purchased and used with my p3-850?", etc. Btw, this is my first box that I am using to learn with. I have an Antec Aria with a mobile athlon that will be used shortly in lieu of this.

Glad that solved your problem.

Unfortunately I don't have a good single resource for PVR basics and questions. These forums and the wiki are good, http://www.byopvr.com has some good info (though a bit too lean, IMO), ExtremeTech.com's Build It section has some good info, and there's a good faq over at mythtv.org, though much of it is specific to MythTV. I don't know of one spot that's particularly thorough in explaining basic concepts and options to a first time builder. It's probably worth starting a thread for just this question alone because other people might have some better resources to recommend.

General info aside, if you keep your threads specific to one or two questions, I'm sure you get lots of help here even if it's "newbie" material. However, you should search the forums first to make sure you're not asking a question that's already been asked and answered 100 times.
