I can't seem to find an answer to this elsewhere on the forums. I get a blank screen when selecting DVD in gbpvr so it doesn't seem to be picking up an appropriate DVD decoder. When I try to set the DVD video decoder in the config program, the drop-down menu just shows "System Default". However, the video decoder drop-down for MPEG2 playback on the Playback tab shows "System Default", "Intervideo nn-CSS", "Elecard" and "Nero". (I'm using Elecard for regular playback).

1) How do I get the Elecard decoder to show up in the config drop-down? Is there a change I need to make to config.xml?

2) Is "DVD Navigator" OK for the Navigator field in config? It is the only item available on the drop-down.

Reading config.xml, I notice that Elecard is included in <SupportedDecoders> but not in <SupportedDVDEncoders>. I thought Elecard should work for DVD. Is there something I'm missing? Can I use the CyberLink decoder from the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack instead?

btw - apologise for the "thumbs down" icon on my previous post. On my hi-res display, it looked like a question mark. When I saw it on my laptop, the awful truth was revealed

you need something like powerdvd or windvd. there is no free dvd-decoder, that's the reason for your problem.

Well, I currently play DVDs with VLC and with mplayer (both open source players who use their own codecs) so I was hoping there would be an open source solution - that's why I was wondering if the CyberLink DVD decoder from the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack would work. I notice that Cyberlink is amongst the decoders in <SupportedDVDEncoders> in config.xml Is this some kind of "special" version only available with the powerDVD product?

Thanks for your help dottore.

If you're lucky, you might just be able to add it to <SupportedDVDEncoders>. This list only contains decoders I knew for sure worked.

So the CyberLink decoder currently in <SupportedDVDEncoders> (and therefore presumably known to work) may not be the same as the "Cyberlink DVD decoder [version 6.0.0.1417]" distributed in the K-Link Mega pack? I was assuming they would be the same. I'm not sure what to add to <SupportedDVDEncoders> since CyberLink appears to already be listed there. Maybe just try installing the decoder and see if it works with the existing entry?

The name in this field is the exact name of the decoder filter. If you have a match on your machine, then it'll be shown. If that specific cyberlink decoder has a slightly different name it wont be show.

You can use the free DirectShow Filter Manager from http://www.softella.com to check the names.
