I'm not sure how this is supposed to work, so bear with me.

Yesterday evening I wanted to record two shows one after the other, but on seperate channels. My pre- and post- padding is set to 5mins and I was worried that there would be a problem because I only have one tuner. When I came back to it this morning there was an error dialog saying something like "the GBPVR recording service has encountered an error and has to close". The first show had recorded OK, but the second failed.

This evening, I found that I wanted to record two shows back to back again, but this time on the same channel. I was curious to see what happened this time, so I hung around to see what happened at the changeover time. Sure enough, the first recording finished, and the error dialog was displayed again. I manually restarted the recording service and I'm pretty sure now the second show is recording OK, I can see the file size incrementing in Windows Explorer.

So the question is - if you have only one tuner and have pre- and post- padding specified, is GBPVR *supposed* to be able to handle back to back recordings?

Cheers
Dave

Yes, it should copy with this fine. I'm running a test now to see if I can reproduce this error.

Padding is considered 'desireable but not required', and so is not applied if the tuner is scheduled to be used for something else.

The back to back recordings seems to be fine here. Its about eight minutes into the second show now without any problems.

I've not seen any other reports of problems with this pretty common scenario.

Here's the event that got logged in Computer Manager/Event Viewer/Application log at 21:00.15 (15 seconds after the end of the first recording):-

Quote:Faulting application GBPVRRecordingService.exe, version 1.0.2158.15229, faulting module MpgMux.ax, version 5.0.0.727, fault address 0x00018fcc.

Seems to be the MPEG mux (the one installed with Media Portal we were talking about)? I've attached the relevent logs for you just in case it helps.

Yes, the Cyberlink mux is causing your problem. Uninstall the current one, and install a different verison.

Bearing in mind that a mux plugin is required for timeshifting/recording, what's the officially recommended way to get hold of one?

Download Autodvrconvert1.3 . This has mpgmux 5.0.0.813

That did the trick, thanks!

Am I right in thinking though that if I wanted I could use the MS demux built into Windows XP? what would be the disadvantages of doing it this way?

I assume you mean mux not demux. You can use the DVR-MS mux. The disadvantage though, is you end with .dvr-ms files instead of .mpg files. These files are not useable by many third party editing apps or dvd burning apps etc. It is a good mux though if all you want to do is record and playback those recordings later.
