Okay, Im impressed with each of them for a couple differnt reasons..But the menus are crappy on them....

They show volume control..I never knwo when gbpvr has the volume up all the way...

They're alot faster.Being commercial apps i figured they'd be much more cpu intensive..

OSD doesnt make tv stutter

You can rewind and pause tv without goign into timeshift mode

My question is...Why cant gbpvr do this...

Whats your point? I'm doing the best I can. If its not good enough, then you're welcome to use BeyondTV or Sage TV.

Im just asking ...are these possible with gbpvr, not now but eventually?..I like gbpvr alot better..It looks 10x better... And its alot easier to use.... The volume control would be awesome if you could include that.......

They've both existed a lot longer than GB-PVR. They both have bigger teams working on them. I'm only one working on GB-PVR, and I spend most of answering stupid questions on the forums.

Quote:They show volume control..I never knwo when gbpvr has the volume up all the way...
I connect my home theatre PC to my Amp, which means I never really change the volume directly on the PC, so this just isnt something thats ever interested me.

It pretty much comes down to choice of graphics librarys. GB-PVR uses GDI+ which is notoriously CPU hungry. Why did I use GDI+? because I actually started GB-PVR to teach myself C#, .net and GDI+. Mission accomplished. Would I use GDI+ if I was writing a PVR app from scratch? No, not with what I know now. That said, it works fine on fast CPUs, so not really a problem - we just need to specify a higher minimum CPU spec for GB-PVR.

Why would you think that? They've had much more time to focus on these aspects. I'd expected them to be more finely tuned.

Quote:OSD doesnt make tv stutter
I never see any stutter when I view the OSD. If your CPU is pretty heavily tax showing video, then the relatively high CPU requirements of using GDI+ to show the OSD may be too much for your PC.

Thats because they're always in timeshift mode. You can configure GB-PVR to always be in timeshift mode too if you want. I prefer 'live preview' mode which these other apps dont offer. It makes for really quick channel switching etc, because there is no buffering going on anywhere. Perfect for those that like to channel surf like me.

The install defaults to live preview mode. Its on the misc tab of the config app. If you're not using live preview mode, then you're using timeshift mode.

Is it just me or do all the differnt ratios... are a little bit off.. Not one of the ratios shows everything and still stay in proportion...Theres no widescreen setting either...thers like a 14:9 but no 16:9... I've looked in config.xml but its really weird numbers like 0,0 .1,.5 stuf like that..And im not sure what those equal...

Set it to what every you want. I havnt dedicated a button to it on my setup, because I very really have to use it (since all TV recordings have the same aspect ratio). Its not required by any plugins that I know of - its only used to toggle the aspect ratio.

It does depend on your resolution, and the aspect ratio of your TV as to whether these are accurate for your setup.

0,0 is the top left of your screen. 1,1 is bottom right of your screen. From these you can define the window to be used for each of the configured aspect ratios. For example <AspectRatio0>0,0,1,1</AspectRatio0> would be a full frame video, which will use the entire screen. <AspectRatio1>0,-0.125,1,1.125</AspectRatio1> would cut the black bars off the top and bottom of a letter-boxed video so that it displays correctly on a 16:9 screen etc...

To be honest, I cant be arsed working it out for you. Standard resolutions for a 4:3 TV are 720x480 (or 720x576 for PAL), or 850x480 for 16:9.
