Poor DivX playback (colors shifted)

Hi,
I use a Tv walker ultra to record shows in DivX.
Playback of the files is ugly, it's smooth but the colors don't overlap. When I use graphedit and open / playback the recording, everything looks much better. The decoder graphedit uses is ffdshow. Am I correct if I say that gbpvr playback probably uses the divx decoder? How can I change this? And if it is something completely else, how can I improve things?

GB-PVR will just use whatever is the system default decoder for that type of AVI. It doesnt choose the decoder itself, Directshow chooses.

You may find your colours are better if you use Overlay instead of VMR.

Mmm. I've tried various things now. Everything uses ffdshow to decode the mp4, I checked by adding an OSD in ffdshow that shows CPU usage.
In all programs I get good playback, except in gbpvr. I use Overlay. In fact, after all the fiddling, it only got worse. The top half of the screen flickers and delays a lot.
I'll browse the web and forums for some answers tomorrow, getting sleepy.
