Hi there, I seem to have "broken" something over the last couple nights while tweaking my pvr box

Everything was really working pretty nicely, but then I did two things that seem to have made watching live tv in timeshift mode (not really live then is it? :p ) well... unwatchable.
  1. Changed the "medium" quality setting to actually be slightly better than even the high quality setting so that all my recordings would in reality default to nice high quality. Worked great on a couple of test recordings I did.
  2. Added a 250gb IDE data drive to do all my recordings on. So there's a 40gb boot drive and then the new 250gb data drive.
So doing a strenuous test last night of watching a hockey game (lots of movement on screen, camera pans, high contrast, etc.) while it's recording, essentially timeshifting. It was completely unwatchable because it stutters really bad now. I'd say it would hang about every 2-3 seconds, lasting about a second, like clockwork.

Unfortunately I'm at work and my GB-PVR system seems to have hung this morning or maybe a cat killed the power stip, who knows. Anyway I can't see my exact settings so this is from memory:
  • medium quality is now variable bit rate, 6000 - 9000, 48khz audio.
Is my new stutter problem because I'm trying to timeshift while still recoding with high quality settings? Is there just to much disk activity going on to handle this? Again, this is only in timeshift - fully recorded shows play back just fine.

Thanks for your help!

The medium profile isnt used for live tv. There is a special 'live tv' profile that is used for this purpose.
