Where I live in the UK I cannot get Freeview (DVB-T) and only analogue with which I am able to recieve only 4 channels. Because of this I recently brought a FloppyDTV which has a CI built in. I also brought a T Rex 4.1 CAM and I was intending to use it with my SKY Freesat card.

Unfortunty I didnt do my homework properly and GBPVR does not support CAM. So at present using the floppydtv te recive the DVB-S the cannals that are transmitted unencrypted(FTV) (BBC, ITV etc). I am unable to get the encrypted channels(FTA) (Channel 4, five, five us, five life etc).

With the latest release MuliDec plugins are supported. I am therefore asking if it is possible to use such plugins to allow GBPVR to use my CAM. Or decypt encrupted channels that I would like to view.

Could anyone tell me if this is possible and if so how do I go about setting it up.

Also could anyone post some links to web pages that explain about multidec plugins?

I would also like to add that I do not want to do anything illegal and have a valid SKY card that allows me to view such services.

I want to get a sat card with CAM for Canal-Digital (Norway). I have a valid subscription card. I just want to get away from my STB-Decoder.

Been looking at MultiDec plugins but it all seem a bit too technical.

Some, please shed some light before I buy the wrong card/hardware.

Sorry, as you've already found, GB-PVR has no native CAM support.

There may be multidec plugins that allow you to watch these channels, but I dont really know, since it varies between TV systems. I'm also not aware of any plugins that utilise CAM modules on the capture device - with multidec plugins its often done in software instead.

Yes, unfortunately it is pretty complex stuff. Places like http://dvbn.happysat.org/index.php and http://www.sat-industry.net/ are good places to research, but there are also loks of other sites discussing this stuff.

Depending on the type of encryption that is used there are (at least) a few different options. Top choise for most is probably Poor Man's CAM. It can handle SECA and Nagravision. And for Conax users, there's CnxCAM, latest version being 0.1.0.4, google for it and you'll find it.
Both of there need a phoenix interface for reading the subscription card. You can find these too on Google. If sub doesn't mind (and it's not against forum rules, I have the direct URL for a UK seller that I can post). Anyway, that orange coloured model seems to be quite popular.
Now I still don't have 1st hand experience of the system as I'm still waiting for my phoenix interface but looking at CnxCAM's monitor when I tune into an encrypted channel in GB-PVR, it looks like it should work.
Also if you don't know what encryption your provider uses, both of the above mentioned CAMs show it in their monitor-windows (a least they showed my cable company's channels are encrypted with Conax, which I know to be the case).
Setup is really a breeze. get the mdapi.zip from sub's main 99.5 thread ald follow the instructions there, throw in the files for your chosen cam into the appropriate folder and tune GB to any channel and see the new icon pop up in the task bar. Right click and you'll get both settings and monitor for atleast the two above mentioned CAMs. If you're interested, I can report back when I get my card reader hopefully sometime next week. Hope this is of some help, I'll try to answer any questions of yours if I can.

Thanks for your replies

Here in the UK the encryption type is Videoguard and our supplier for DVB-S is SKY. And I would be very interested in finding out how you get on.

Finding a CAM for Videoguard might be tricky as it's quite strictly licensed...
But I'll let you know how my system is working as soon as I get it set up properly.

Thanks for the info, please let us how it goes. I have Canal Digital which is also Conax. As for the phoenix card reader, will that be a must? As you may know Hauppauge is bringing out a USB smart card reader to work with their DVB cards. They even state that this will work with Canal Digital. However only MS Media Center and MediaPortal support Cams.

So with CnxCAM, a card reader , valid subscription card, I should be able to get it to work with GBPVR?? If not, got to bug Sub more to implement CAM support!

CnxCAM currently only support devices that communicate over the com port. The reader I talked about earlier actually emulates a com port over USB. Without knowing how the Hauppauge reader works, a phoenix reader is the safest bet. The guy working on CnxCAM is working on support for PC/SC but I really didn't figure out what it was even though I read through most of the page.

Thanks Sub and mikaelgu.

I'llbe looking into this. Anyway the Phoenix reader is a lot cheaper than the Hauppauge one! Also, maybe the phoenix and CnxCAM will support more than one DVB card on one subscription card??? Wink

Again Thanks for the info, and keep us posted on you finding!
