My requirement is pretty simple. I have a Viewsat 9000 FTA satellite receiver. It has built in recording capabilities but no scheduling. This means you have to be present to start and stop recording of a show which kind of defeats the purpose of PVR. I have been able to capture the codes that the remote control for the 9000 uses and I am think of buying a USB-UIRT to send codes to the 9000. The last piece I need is something that can schedule a time to send codes to my satellite receiver. What would be needed it to change the channel, send the record code and when the show is over send the stop command. I would need to be able to do it one time for things like movies and on a recurring basis for things like weekly shows. It would be nice to have some kind of an easy to use interface. The computer wouldn't record anything, it will all go to the USB drive attached to the sat box, the PC is just being used for scheduling and control. Any comments as to whether gbpvr /USB-UIRT can be used and if not what else I may to use would be appreciated.

but it may not work cuz gb may sense no capture card and stop prematurely..
[it looks for file creation and if none found, retries, then stops]

i do think there's a xmltv based scheduler out there that can do it better...
it gives you a guide and lets you setup cmds for events..that's it..
probably your best bet...i forget the name..more than one out there..Smile

I used to have a programmable remote from Radio Shack that allowed me to capture the codes from any device then to program the remote to broadcast the learned codes to the various devices at selected times. It worked well for year until the chicklet keys just would no longer respond to pushes. Bet there's still something like that out in the wild.

If in windows - use Winlirc with serial blaster and digits.exe (on the forums somewhere, gotta search for it). This will allow you to send the IR codes via the command line. You can write a batch job that fires off from "scheduled jobs". or install a "windows cron" to manage the scheduling.

In Linux, you could use lirc with serial blaster and schedule it with cron.

I'm not that familiar with USB blasters yet, so I couldn't tell you how to do it with one of those.
