My television is a 16:9 aspect widescreen. Most of my files play back with the proper aspect ratio. Videos are great. DVDs look fine. The problem lies with the playback of recorded TV shows that are 4:3. They stretch to full widescreen aspect ratio as well. If I play the same file in windows media file outside of PVRX2, it looks fine and properties shows that is has the proper information as it is listed as a 720 x 480 recording with 4:3 aspect ratio. I don't like to have to manually change the aspect ratio via keyboard (pillar box misses some of the screen info). My television cuts off the sides of the video when I change the viewing aspect of the PVRX2 recordings on the TV screen. Regular TV viewing, the TV properly shows the aspect as it is supposed to be. It is almost as if the video information is not being properly rendered when played through PVRX2. Is there somewhere we can change a setting that will fix that?

Are you using the 'auto' aspect ratio mode, and are these .mpg files, and do you have the video decoder set to something other than 'system default'. Assuming all these, then it should auto pillarbox 4:3 content for display on a 16:9 screen. If not, then reproduce the problem and I'll take a look.

Some people arent away of the need to have a decoder other than 'system default' for this to work, which is the first thing I'd check.

For some reason it didn't work with the intervideo codec. I installed the Nvidia Purevideo codec and it worked fine. Both were tried by selecting the playback codec rather than allowing the system default to auto select. Again, thanks for the great support.

I thought I had my problems solved here. Its not quite done. When I start the PVRX2 program and then play an mpeg file, it plays it fine with the proper aspect ratio. If I stop the playback and then restart it, the output goes back to full screen. It recognizes that the file is 4:3 aspect ratio in the first attempt, but looses that information in the second attempt for some reason.

I am using the Nvidia decoder with the settings set to anamorphic/raw aspect.

I have attached the logs

I tried the PVRX2 setup on my second machine with the same codec and it does the same thing. When I first watch a recorded show or and mpeg video, the aspect ratio is correct at 4:3. If I stop and then restart the same video, it goes to full screen of 16:9 which stretches the recording wider than it should be.

Anyone have any thoughts?

No, not really. Try a different decoder.

I think there are quite a few people on here with the same problem. If you do a quick search for aspect ratio you'll get a few posts with the same problem. I've had what sounds like the exact same problem since my move to PVRX2.

If it's really a show stopper you can try using the old GBPVR rather than PVRX2, for me it maintains auto aspect ratio, or you can edit the ratio settings in the config xml so you don't loose any screen info.

I think I've only ever seen one other post describing this behaviour, so dont think it is as common as you indicate here. I suspect he'd get this same behaviour in GBPVR.exe.
