here is my machine specs.

AMD Opteron 165
2 gig ram (ocz plat DDR 400)
x-fi Extreme Music
PVR 150 MCE
6800 128 mb? or 256 dont remember off hand its a vanilla PNY one
160 Gig IDE
250 gig IDE

gbpvr is of course, stored on the master drive (my primary OS)
i have live recordings stored on the 250 under a folder \gbpvr\Live!
i have previous recordings via the \Gbpvr\ directory

under my system settings i use

video decoder : FFDSHOW
Audio: System default (only use it because my X-fi Pops and crackles under playback after a while on my current audio codecs)
audio renderer: Default (also, due to the pop and crackle, this seems to be the best choice from what i've been playing with so far)

pvrx2.exe renderer : VMR9 fullscreen exclusive

everything is setup to the best of my knowledge. i have PVRx2.exe running on monitor 2, and when i'm in IE / FF or checking my Email in Thunderbird i get very small video chops, but my audio stays fine. when i switch tabs in IE / FF it does the same, and forget running a virtual server via VMWare Tongue it seems to not like that.

my drivers are not up to date as to chipset / video i know that for sure.

if i need to post logs let me know. Smile

I was having a similar issue when I upgraded to a dual core AMD chip. After setting processor affinity, the problem went away. Turns out there is a patch (for XP) that fixed this problem for me. Take a look at this thread and see if it helps your problem.

It's an oddball thing, but I and a friend both had it recently. The hard drive was stuck in PIO mode instead of DMA. You can check in hardware devices and look at the tabs under IDE controllers. When a drive errors six times, it drops down in speed.

It should be pretty obvious if that is the problem, though. Burning a DVD will most likely take 40 minutes instead of four minutes. I also did a 3dMark test on mine and got 3500 points, changed it to DMA and then got 9500 points.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:
