Hi,

My gbpvr/MediaMVP won't play the AVIs that come from my digital camera (MJPG codec, Canon camera). The PC does have the codec, and does play the AVIs ok. Not sure why gbpvr/MediaMVP can't. Is it because I need a DirectShow filter for it, besides the codec? Does anybody have a pointer? I found this: http://dshow.narod.ru/ but no MJPG entries mention a DirectShow filter.

Maybe AVISynth could be used? I actually entered this as a feature request / suggestion.

Thanks,

marcio

This might be of interest, or not. http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/index.htm

I've read mentions of FFDshow decoding mjpg. Maybe that will help lead to the answer.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

Yes, I had that link. I have always used MainConcept MJPEG codec. But today I tried enabling FFDShow's MJPG. I can play MJPG files in Windows Media Player, both latest & classic. BUT still nothing in GB-PVR.

I launched the GB-PVR EXE on he PC (as opposed to the MediaMVP interface) and looked at the logs when I try to play the file. This is what I see:

If I ply on the PC I get an error dialog and the log above. If I play on the MediaMVP, I get a black screen for a few seconds and then back to the lst of files.

When you look at the MVP-PVR logs which you should be looking at you will see the command line that GBPVR uses with ffmpeg. Type the same command at the command prompt and see if an error message is displayed.

I don't see a cmd-line to ffmpeg. Maybe I need to turn on DEBUG level logging?

For the mvp you are looking for MVP-PVRX2.exe.log

It still looks like a crash/exception to me. Not sure about the "FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: CyberLink MPEG Muxer".

For the record, I found the problem. I looked in config.zml, and saw the cmd-line used:

<MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLineNTSC>-y -i "{SOURCE_FILE}" -b 2400k -ac 2 -ab 128 -r 29.97 -s 352x240 -f svcd "{DEST_FILE}"</MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLineNTSC>

Running it myself, I saw the error:

[mp2 @ 008F9D60]Sampling rate 11024 is not allowed in mp2
Error while opening codec for output stream #0.1 - maybe incorrect parameters such as bit_rate, rate, width or height

Googling, I found the extra param that I needed to pass: -ar 48000

New command, which works:

<MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLineNTSC>-y -i "{SOURCE_FILE}" -b 2400k -ac 2 -ab 128 -r 29.97 -s 352x240 -ar 48000 -f svcd "{DEST_FILE}"</MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLineNTSC>

I hope this helps others.

Great you got it sorted.Smile
In theory ffmpeg should default to 44.100 for samplingrate, but something goes wrong here obviously.
I also noticed that in the ffmpeg version gbpvr is using, the audio bitrate still doesn't need the "k" added e.g. "ab 128k".
In the latest ffmpeg this seems to be the case according to the ffmpeg docs: http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/documentation.html

My problem now is that my tweaks to the config.xml file keep getting lost. Even if I stop the recording service, quit the "G" app in the task bar (lower right) before I edit, I still see my config changes lost after a while. What's the secret? Unfortunately teh GUI app does not let me tweak these parms, so I am forced to tweak the config.xml file.
