HI - first off I have to admit that I've been a somewhat casual user and not explored what gbpvr can really do - suffice it to say just the obvious bits are impressive enough!

My setup has GBPVR 1.1.5 running on an XP machine driving a Hauppauge MVP. The only content I'm working with is my itunes library and downloaded movies etc.

Recently on several occasions playback just bombs straight out, usually after say 20-30 minutes of watching a 60 minute AVI, resetting the whole MVP back to the garish blue hauppauge screen, it takes a minute or two to get back to the gbpvr screen menu. I'd like to get to the bottom of why this is - especially because - also I've never had FF or Rewind work - pressing FF brings up a slider bar at the top of teh screen and occasionally I can FF about 20s but I can't skip thru major sections to get back to 30 mins in to a prog for instance.

What do I need to look at/for to track down the cause of this?

you know that if you playback an avi file to an mvp, gbpvr has to convert it on te fly to an mpeg file as that is the only video format the mvp can play, so i guess this conversion process is crapping out either because it doesn;t like the avi file or perhaps you have some stability problem with the server pc.

FF/RW don;t work when playing back avi files AFAIK but that isn't much as I don;t own an mvp!

OK that would explain it - so presumably I need to manually convert these files to MPEG using Nero recode (or is there a better recommendation)?

What settings do I need in GBPVR? at the moment it just says "System Default" under software MPEG-2 Playback and VMR%9 under GBPVR Video Renderer...

these settings are just for mpeg playback on the gbpvr client, I don't think they relate to the mvp. typically, you set them to the mpeg decoder that you have chosen and intalled (eg. purevideo, intervideo, MPV decoder)

I'm sure that there are mvp users trancoding on the fly to mpeg but i guess you need a powerful cpu for it work. however if you want ff/rw then yes, I think you need to convert them to mpegs.

but you could possibly benefit from input from someone who actually owns an mvp..!
