Did a search and couldn't see anything about this. Has anyone tried using ffdshow post processing for dvds (scaling up, sharpening etc) combined with sub's built in DVD player?

I'm finding that with post processing on, the DVD menus don't seem to work properly, by which I mean the menu item selected isn't highlighted. Key presses or buttons on the remote still work enabling you to select options etc just it doesn't show on the screen, making it somewhat tricky!

Would be great to get this working as then I could enjoy all my DVDs in full scaled up glory!

Anyone got any ideas?

What codec are you using? Have you tried using ffdshow as the codec instead of enabling post processing in gbpvr. You can still use ffdshow to upscale if you do this.

Was using purevideo. Thanks for the suggestion but can't seem to get ffdshow decoding mpeg2s - have activated mpeg2 in its codecs screen although there is a tick box at the bottom saying "DVD decoding (doesn't work yet)" ??

Also it doesn't appear in the DVD tab of the GB-PVR config as an option for video decoder - can only see Cyberlink PDVD and Nvidia in there?

I believe I had to edit config.xml and add ffdshow to the supported dvd decoders so that you can choose it in the config utility. Also the version I am using appears to support dvd decoding. Have a look here for the version I am running

I'm inatalling a fresh copy of windows and gbpvr. DO you think I will have any problems ONLY using ffdshow for decoding/incoding (for audio & video). Looking at ffdshow, it would appear as if no other codecs are needed. Do you think that this is the case?

Thanks Dark, thought I'd upgraded ffdshow but looks like I hadn't.

Got it working now by adding to the config.xml but unfortunately, per my first post, ffdshow doesn't seem to be compatible with the DVD menus. Have you got them working? If not, guess this is something I'll have to hope sub gets a chance to look at some time!

gh_speedyg - my previous para probably mostly answers your question unless I'm still doing something wrong! FFDshow is fine for xvid/divx though. You'll need a separate decoder for HD playback too eg coreavc unless you've got a pretty hefty CPU as FDDshow doesn't do hardware acceleration (nor does coreavc but it's much more efficient).

DVD menu appear to work fine here although most of my dvds are ripped to the harddrive without menus. I did check one with menus and it worked.

Strange, have tried now with both ffdshow as the decoder and using purevideo or cyberlink as the decoder and ffdshow for post-processing. As soon as I add ffdshow to the filter chain the dvd menu highlights break.

Quick google suggests quite a few have had this problem using ffdshow in different players so it's not a GB-PVR problem. Unfortunately while one of the tryouts versions claimed to have fixed it it doesn't work for me.

I do not know if it makes a difference but I am running vista and using fullscreen exclusive. Attached is a pitcure of "lastdvdgraph.grf" in graphedit and I am only using ffdshow and I get menu highlights.

Got it! It was the DVD navigator that was causing the problem. Changing this from cyberlink PDVD to DVD Navigator per your graphedit fixed it and now I've got menu highlights again. Smile

Thanks for all your help.
