I'm still having weird problems with DVD playback using the Nvidia decoder which might be due to the newish ATI drivers. I tried a couple of other ones with varying success, the MPV decoder and Dscaler.

I installed the CyberLink Video SP/Decoder (ATI) and it shows up under mpeg decoder in playback but not for the mpeg decoder under the DVD tab. Any way to use this decoder, or do I need to find a different version?

I dont know if that specific version of the decoder is able to play CSS encrypted content or not. You could try adding 'CyberLink Video/SP Decoder (ATI)' to the <SupportedDVDDecoders> setting in config.xml to see if it works.

It worked for video, but the OSD no longer comes up with this decoder. Bummer..

Some older versions of the Cyberlink decoder do no support VMR9 unless you add a registry setting (google "Cyberlink EnableVMR9=1"). Without this setting these versions fall back to overlay, which causes the OSD to not show.

Shouldnt be any difference between dvds or recordings though.

I gave up on Purevideo finally - it was always a quirky bit of software, even when it did work! On a new built PC with an ATI card, I only installed the video card drivers and the ATI Avivo encoder. DVD's play better than ever - with all the menus working!
However there is no DVD decoder showing in the drop-down list in GBPVR config - I have to leave it on system default.
Even more odd - if I open a DVD file with the old media player classic, in properties / advanced, only the audio decoder, the direct sound device & the video renderer are being used - no separate video decoder! I assume this means the ATI drivers are doing the decoding? Anyway, it works...
