I am having occasional pixelation issues when the show/video being viewed is dark. In addition, I sometimes get jerky movement (people nodding their heads comes to mind).

Is this an issue with my cpu (AMD 1.8ghz), my graphics card (Nvidia 256), a combo, or something else entirely?

Sorry to bump, but I haven't been able to resolve this issue, and before I go out and buy new hardware I would like to have some input. I appreciate anyone's help.

DOn't know about the jerky movement - but the pixelation is just due to the compression isn't it?
I sometimes get s a greenish pixelation on black scenes.

Is this digital or analog?

Thanks

Thanks for your response.

Digital. What i am thinking is that the pixelation due to compression can be overcome if I have a faster CPU or more powerful graphics card. I am not an expert in this area, hence why I am asking.

No, because it's digital - you get whatever your broadcaster throws at you.
I know that some of the channels I watch are compressed too much and get pixelation.

GBPVR just records the digital stream, already compressed by the TV station.

The jerkiness is probably related to your CPU / graphics combination. What model is the graphics cards? It can also be releated to the video decoder & renderer which you are using.

I think people have suggested overlay manager as the renderer for slower systems in the past, but the OSD is not as pretty as VMR or EVR. (isn't transparent)

If you play the same recording a few times, do the artefacts appear in the same place all the time? or are they change?

I think I see what you are getting at martint123 - if they are the same every time, then it is the feed, and if they are different, it is the computer, right?

I will try this out. Thanks.

Yes, just trying to narrow the possibilities.

That's a good hint from Martin. You might also want to provide some more info such as:-

Where abouts in the world you are.
What tuner you have
Are you receiving ATSC, QAM, DVB-T?
What video decoder you are using
What renderer you are using (As Jonnycam said, overlay is best on an old graphics card)
CRT or flatpanel?
Resolution?

So when I record a broadcast and replay it (several times) the pixelation appears in the same place.

Location: West coast, U.S.
Tuner: Twinhan 1020a
DN DVB-S (good signal strength)
Nvidia decoder
Renderer: have tried all
19" LCD 1024x768 and old 25" GE tube
