I've built a client PC from parts that were given to me by a coworker who wanted to clean our his garage. I got alot better stuff than I was expecting but let me get to my point. The power supply that I had to power the machine is a tad noisy. I'm searching for a new quiter solution but the motherboard is a little older and has the 20pin main power connector. I'm searching my favorite online dealer and it seems most newer power supplies have a 20+4 pin main power connector. I'm not sure if these will work on this motherboard. Would these 20+4 pin connectors work on the 20 pin motherboard?

It should work. If you look at top photo notice that the +4 pins is disconnectable (it justs slides on/off).

even if the extra 4 connectors don't come off, [they should] you can just let them hang off the side, it will still plug in properly..

and look for 80Plus certified psu's...they run quieter and cooler and use less power too..Smile

I have an Antec Earthwatts 380. It is extremely quiet and rock solid for the last year.

I was actually looking at that one as well. I might get two of them because our computer in the study stays on all the time and if things are quiet you can hear all the fans going in the living room.

Just noticed you've got a 9800 pro. Is it fanless? Remember mine was a noisy little thing with a dinky fan.

Its not fanless and it is a dinky little fan. I didn't think that it would make as much noise compared to the power supply/and or case fan so that was where I was heading. We might have to live with any noise the 9800 makes.

unplug/remove the small fan + zip tie an 80mm at 7v across it, thats what ive done with my ati x1600, works well. Just keep an eye on the temp before + after, but realistically it'll probably end up colder....

I purchased a new Earthwatts EA430 off of ebay for $36!!! I put the PS in the pc and it is still quite loud. I took the side panel off and unplugged the case fan and turned it on. Still pretty loud. So that narrows it down to the CPU fan and GPU fan. I'm gonna try it with both those off to see if the noise level is reduced. I'd like to get the noise level down to a point where it can stay on but it is not a deal breaker. We have not used it as much because I haven't gotten a remote for it yet and the wife doesn't like the keyboard method.

There are not alot of options for the board as far as any fanless video cards or CPU fans + heatsinks because of its age. I think it is an AMD Socket A and AGP 8x for graphics.
