Hi,

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit) and GBPVR 1.4.7. I am in New Zealand and am having problems with playback of DVB-T programs and other H264 encoded programs.

I use the Microsoft Codec as it is free and seems good quality. However my problem is that while playing in GBPVR the CPU averages around 40% (Dual core Athon 2x). When I playback the same video using VLC, Media Player or Media Center the CPU is under 10%, much smoother and has less distortion.

I've heard people try to use FDDSHOW but I ran into problems getting any picture at all. I'd rather use the MS one if possible. I'm guessing it is not using hardware assisted processing (I'm using a Radeon 4670).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

I'm surprised VLC would have CPU that low, since it has no hardware acceleration support (and BTW isnt using the Microsoft decoder).

Are you using the EVR video renderer? You need to be to get hardware acceleration.

Thanks for that, seems simple now :-)

CPU starts around 35% and drops after about 20 seconds to 15% to 20%. VLC and Media player are similar. I was wrong in my inital post, using the VMR9 Custom was around 60% CPU.

Every now and then I am getting distortion in the image (sound is OK). The screen scrambles colours, it isn't always the whole picture, just some of it. It appears to do this in GBPVR, VLC and Media Player. Any idea what that is?

Thanks,
Roger

If its doing it in all three players, then its probably some reception issue leading to corrupt parts of the recording.

Thanks for your help. It doesn't appear to be in the same place each time during playback so I guess it isn't the recording. I'll try a different graphics driver at some stage to see if that helps.

Try using Cyberlink H264/AVC decoder. After you install it, make sure EVR is selected for renderer, then click on the button to the right of the decoder("...") and check "Use DxVA"

I have win7 x64 ultimate as well. I use a newer ffdshow x64 and everything runs very smooth.

The reason for me to use ffdshow instead of Microsofts own is that I need a better subtitle support (or something like that).

Wow, can you tell us how you force x86 GBP-PVR to use x64 decoders? Big Grin
