Hi.
I have strange problem with DVD playback under GB-PVR and i was not able to resolve it by myself for long time now.

What happend and how:

Basically, i can play all DVDs without any problem thanks for SAF and AnyDVD from original DVD/riped to ISO or folder on hardisk. The problem happend ond second (some time third and more) try to play DVD. By other words, i can start DVD then back to GB-PVR gui and start it again and now problem happend. If not, than back to GB-PVR and play it again...

What the problem is?
Well, DVD starts and continue to play normally, but GB-PVR somehow "freeze". It is no longer possible to controll it by remote, keyboard or mouse, even if GB-PVR runs in window mode, it is not possible to move with this window (but DVD playback continue normally). All i can do is kill GB-PVR by task manager. This problem only happend on DVDs.
I checked LOGs and i didnt found any problem here.

I tested multiple audio/video decoders, but without any difference.

Does anybody have any idea why this happening?

BTW, my HTPC is XP (VMR9 FSE renderer) based. I was trying to reproduce the problem on my Win7X64 (EVR renderer) but here seems to be working correctly...

Thanks.

I've had a similar problem in the past that only seemed to happen when I mixed Cyberlink video decoders with the standard DVD navigator. If I paired up Cyberlink video with Cyberlink navigator everything was ok.

These days I use Purevideo along with the standard navigator.

Now i found something interesting.

If i play DVD directly from DVD medium by "Play DVD", it is working without any problem, can run it unlimited times.

Then i create Video library to my DVD drive "Z:\" and play DVD from Video library - still no problem.

So i copy whole DVD to harddisk (this time AnyDVD was off) and it is working!

So i rip this DVD by AnyDVD to different folder and compare files and found, they are different... This DVD is not protected, but AnyDVD changed something. So it looks like my version of AnyDVD is causing such problems...
Strange is, there is no problem if i play this riped DVD by MPC-HC player with same graph in use...

BTW, i just by an mistake try to play non DVD ISO and GB-PVR hangs.
I think GB-PVR should popup some error message like not DVD video disc or something like this instead of freeze...

Looks like i have still the same problem.

This time tryed to play DVD directly from DVD disc and all is working correctly.
So i copied all files to harddrive and compare all files by Tottal Commanden (compare function) - all files are exacly the same, but playback from hardidsk cause freeze every second start.

What can cause this? I read somewhere MS DVD navigator have some check if DVD is played from DVD medium and it looks like it is true after all :/

So i am little out of ideas Sad

Now i was able to reproduce the problem on 3 XP system (play DVD from folder).

Only working system is Win7. So maybe it is time for my HTPC to got Win7 x86...

BTW, is it normal there is so many graph remaining in graphstudio (Start/stop/start/stop/etc...) of DVD playback?
Can this be somehow related?

This doesnot happend with "normal" videos.

The problem is daemon tools, it takes the focus when the iso is mounted, I have the same problem, I use that autoit script on here, cant remember what its called to bring focus back to gbpvr. It works most of the time, but it does loose focus sometimes and never recovers sometimes, and have to kill gbpvr, sometimes have to restart / power off (in exclusive mode and cant get to the desktop).
Also have problems with it randomly crashing on dvds, mounted or not.

It looks like i found an solution.

FFDshow doesnot work correctly with GB-PVR, so i tryed PDVD9 decoder and DVDs doesnot freeze any longer. But DXVA MUST be OFF.
I re-added this decoder to *unlocked* SAF.

OK, i have some more info about this problem.
Here is sample i am working with: http://hobring.esero.net/saf/gb-pvr/dvd.rar

To reproduce the problem:
No need to have any on the fly DVD decoder installed sample is not protected.
You need WinXP (VMR9 renderer) + FFDShow or PDVD video decoder with DXVA ON (or maybe more decoders) - can be easy set by installing SAF (link below)
Play DVD, stop and play again - GB-PVR will "freeze", but playback will continue...
I was able to reproduce this on 3 PC with different hardware, so it should not be HW related.

It is working fine on Vista - Win7 (EVR)
It is working fine by using PDVD decoder with DXVA off or "Mpeg2DecFilter.ax" (but this is usseles becouse of missing HW deinterlacing)

I think the problem must be related to GB-PVR, becouse using the same decoders and setting in MPC-HC or Media Portal working without any problem.
Maybe graph is not released correctly, can be related to VMR9 renderer, no idea. There is nothing interesting in LOGs...
I need to use FFDshow becouse of HW deinterlacing and crop Smile
