Hello,

I am currently running Windows XP Media Center Edition.

I came accross GB-PVR while looking for something to replace MCE. Downloaded 09108 from a cached link on google... current download link (09109) on homepage is dead btw.

As soon as I atempt to run any of the GB-PVR applications I get a unhandled CLR exception. I am thinking that this may well be something to do with the WinXPMCE recording service hogging my capture cards... I'll just go check.

...OK - disabled both the MCE receiver and scheduler services... made no difference, GB-PVR service fails to start and all apps (GBPVRTray, Configure, GBPVR) fail with a similar unhandled exception dialog.

Just rebooted with the same services disabled. Same problem.

Has anyone had the same problem when trying to install on WinXPMCE? I know you could argue that I ought not to need GB-PVR, but I don't want to get into that right now, and I don't want to have to go formatting my disk to evaluate GB-PVR.

I could, of course, be missing the point completely here and there might be some issue completely unrelated to MCE causing GB-PVR not to work. Either way, I would appreciate some assistance.

Adam.

OK, seems I was barking up the wrong tree. I infact had a problem with the .net framework on that machine... XPMCE uses 1.0, not 1.1 - therefore I've probably not ever run a 1.1 app on there before. (although 1.1 was installed)

It wasn't a straight forward as I thought to fix it, so I thought I would note down the steps I took incase someone else has the same issue.

Uninstalled .net framework 1.1 - fine
Reinstalled using dotnetfx.exe - failed, stalled on removing backup files.
Reinstalled using Windows Update - failed, useless error message, no extended information.
Went back to dotnetfx, waited until stalled, used Sysinternals Process Explorer to see what was going on.
Was actually compiling native images using ngen.exe. Observed for about 5mins, decided something wasn't working - then ended the ngen process. Everything continued, reported sucessful install.
Ran GB-PVR - failed, same CLR exception error.
Considered that something obviously failed to JIT on install.
Updated .net framework with SP1 - desperate by this point.
Resinstalled GB-PVR (don't know if this was necessary).
et viola.... Everthing works. Just downloading my EPG atm.

Adam.
